I've been thinking about this for a bit, and I'd like to see the two following new forums that I think would be helpful to THR members:

1. A "Getting Started" or "New to Shooting?" forum.
2. A "Where to Shoot" forum with one thread for each State, then lock so no new threads could be created.

i really like the "where to shoot" idea. it would be nice if we could put together a good list of places, and add details like facilities, prices, range distances, weekly competitions, etc. i think it would be a good way for some of us to get together and get some more shooting done.

I'd like to have one called politics. Anyone could post political stuff there and the posts would get automatically deleted after 2 minutes so the mods wouldn't have to do it themselves. :)

Perhaps auto-locking threads? :)

I agree - both are excellent ideas, and I would really like to see this one :D

Those are both good ideas...But I think the "where to shoot" link in the general gun discussion at the top of the page would work just as well...Since we can't post in it anyway.

automatically deleted after 2 minutes

Why so long?

So that 27 people can type IBTL and boost their post count. ;)

I like the where to shoot idea.

It would need to be updatable - as things change.

I also visit a local forum which I found out about on THR. Bayoushooter.com
I like it for localized info. In fact a local shooting spot was mention on a post. It is a borrow pit with trash left by shooters. Members of Bayoushooter went & cleaned up, including a member with a backhoe. The 'Pit" is extremely clean now.

A way for members to meet others is a good thing. Maybe a list for localized forums could be included.

Thanks,
WNTFW

As a new shooter who's driving an hour to the nearest range, I think both are great ideas!

Rally Point provides some range info, but only incidentally. A search of it should bring up references to event and places in a given area. Similar information resides in General and in Strategy & Tactics.

That said, I think the idea of a range listing is pretty good as a sticky. That way it would be searchable and there wouldn't be any reason to double post a range. The down side is that people would not be able to resist the urge to bicker about the merits and problems of a given range, but those could be deleted and the discussion could be a topic in General.

i dont know if we need a new forum for these. i think we could add them to the top of each section or in the general information. Where to shoot. it could be a sticky at the top where members put in where you can shoot.

Should also contain an entry that points to that mash-up map.

With a little work, that map could be a usable resource.

I like Ilbob's idea. In addition how about a section in which people post ideas and requests for new sections? This topic is always popular.
