I inherited a beautiful Model 36 "Chief's Special .38 snub, made in 1979.

I mean the new ones... the 'retro' Smiths. Post a pic of your 36, though, if you have one. Tasty.

I thought about a new Model 1917 since my old Model 1917 is one of my favorites. I am not sure if the new model has any improvements from the original.
My Model 1926 .44 was stolen some years ago and I would like another .44 Special 4 inch for CCW. It is on the list, about half way down!

I really want a case colored M40 lemon squeezer, but $929 MSRP? come on. Has anyone actually seen one for sale yet, and at what price?

Those M40 lemon squeezers are like hen's teeth, nearly impossible to find.
Pretty neat though.

I fondled one at a local shop last month - it was sweet, I had dreams about it for days. I think it was ticketed at $689 and I just about swallowed my tongue.

Therein lies the problem. The true classics can usually be had for less $$$. Think about it. If you had a choice between a replica 427 Cobra S/C for $50k or an original for $40k, assuming identical condition, which would you pick?
I know, they don't really sell for those prices (that'd be sweet), just for illustration purposes.

Uh, does the Thunder Ranch Special Model 21 count? I have two. Other than the grips, they're just nicely done 21s. I'm a "retro" sort of guy but have large hands.:o

I was thinking about getting one of the new model 40s, then I found this one for $450:

I have a TRR m22-4 it is a great revolver, despite the lock. Mine has nice blue and really nice stocks. I found it in the used case for $450 back in June. My only gripe is the apparent burs around the outside edge of the forcing cone.
I've seen a few more in dear cases since then, but none of them seemed as nice as mine (at least the stocks), which I find odd.

I agree with jad0110. Why would I pay more for a cheapened knock off, with all the current "innovations", when I can get the real thing for less?

Those are crazy prices. I picked this up for $350 and added the CT grips.

Gator,
For $450, I'd say that's a pretty good price considering my local shop wants $575-ish for the same gun.

Yeah, I think I got it for about $100 less than it should have been. But my dealer got it back on the next thing I bought.

I'd love to get one of the m40s, preferably original but I would take whatever I could get.

A few weeks ago I purchased a Model 22, Model 1917 what sweet handgun. I've stopped carrying my Smith 629 Classic in the woods. The 1917 is lighter in wt. to carry and those 6 round clips allow speedy reloading. But the main thing it is a good shooter.

I just ordered one of the Color Case 40-1 Centennials because I want a new J-frame to carry, and the prices on the old guns are getting up there. The price is a bit high, but the ammo is worse.

That is the exact one that I would like, either case hardened or just blue. How does it shoot?

I like it fine. It's my first gun so I may not be the best person to ask. My only issue is the small stock service grip. I am ordering a Hogue wooden grip that's longer. That should fix that.
I had looked at other pistols from .22s on up to .45s - both revolvers and 1911s. My brother and father are big shooters so I was able to take some time to try before I bought. Between the two they had a lot to sample. I settled on the Model 36 for starters.
I may still get myself a compact Colt 1911. I really fancy that gun. It is just a bit out of my price range at the moment. I know it won't go down but I can save up. :-)
