Will AR Uppers Be Available Under the AWB?

First of all... (*knocks on wood*)

I'm in the thick of the "stock up on things in case the SHTF in the next election" frenzy and I am curious about this. I know you only need an FFL to purchase an AR lower, but I am wondering if I will be able to buy AR uppers should the Assault Weapons Ban be reinstated. If this is the case, I'll look more into buying one AR with a "good lower" (not entirely sure what constitutes this) and worry about other calibers and barrel lengths later.

If there is a new AWB the odds are it will be somewhat different from the previous one as the proponents try to fill loopholes. Point is.. nobody can tell at this point what the future will bring.

Looking on the bright side, I believe the Democrats finally understand gun control is a losing issue, since I have not heard anything about it thus far.

Thus far ...

Buy what you need and don't have. Buy what you'll need and won't have.

I swear, it all sounds like a plot by the NSSF.

But if the Dems win this time, they will hold all the power again, and could care less about the long term effect. They will rape and pillage the country as we have never seen before. Remember, the Dems running now are nothing like the dems that were in control years ago. Things have gotten a little further to the left in my opinion. My biggest fear is that all "Assault Weapons" will become Title II and require extensive fees and back ground checks. I bet they even raise the $200 tax.
Also, remember that just because you own a lower, it won't count as a complete rifle and thus it never existed as a "pre-ban" Even if a ban is passed, you lower still might not be anything more than a paperweight. My suggestion would be to build it, take photos (dated) and then build another lower using the same parts. That way, at one time that lower was a complete firearm before the ban.

Even the worst snake hiding in the grass knows to stay hidden until the right time to strike. Mark my words. A new AWB will be one of the first agendas of the Dems after Obama or Hitlery is sworn into office.

Yeah. Expect special licenses to have anything more than 1,000 rounds in one place.

I can just see the "possession with intent to deliver" busts in the future.

I don't expect another AWB to pass, but if one DOES pass, it will undoubtedly be some variant of H.R.1022. As I read it, it would prohibit the sale of uppers and possibly even replacement bolts, bolt carriers, or other parts for guns dubbed "assault weapons." Which, if you read it closely, would include fixed-magazine SKS's, M1 Garands, M1A's, etc. as well as the guns specifically banned by name (Ruger mini-14's, M1 carbines, AR-15 type rifles, civilian AK's, etc.).

I agree. Not much sense debating the minutiae of something that doesn't yet exist. I'd still err on the side of caution and pick up some goodies at your leisure. Good for the economy, natch.

There is no way to know what a bill will look like in its final version. Sometimes, though rarely, an "amended" bill will end up saying the exact opposite of what the original draft said.

Work to be sure it doesn't happen instead of trying to speculate what the yet uncreated law will be.

I live in CA and already have a hard time getting this stuff so I'm not to worried about it. Still got my AR. That and they just ban body armor here and I still have ways to get it.

Yeah, just wait until Hillary or Obama are in their second term and have nothing to lose... :barf:

My guess is that if they end up holding the Senate, House, and White House, they'll start out somewhat restrained. If they can hold Congress for two years and re-election is looking good for whoever winds up in the White House . . . then they'll start going off the deep end, thinking they've got a clear mandate from the people, blah blah etc etc.

The 3 top Democratic presidential contenders (Hillary, Obama and Edwards), in an interview on TV not long ago, (you can find it on YouTube I'm sure), all said they would push for a new AWB.

It's only a losing issue for the Dems before the election. Watch out if/when they win!

Sounds like you are ashamed to be known as gun owner, so afraid of your own shadow you have to hide who you are and what you believe in. When those politicians look at which voters they might lose with gun control legislation, you can proudly say that they have no idea that you care about guns and they'll remember that.

Me, I'm a gun owner and proud. The government can know I own guns just like they know I vote and pay my taxes. I write letters and I contact my representatives. I'm proud to be counted as someone who isn't ashamed of owning guns. I make it clear that gun control is a sure way to end a political career as far as I'm concerned and there are many like me.

But feel free to hide and think you've outsmarted them while they move ahead and pass the legislation thinking it's only going to effect a smaller portion of voters than actually care about gun rights. Imagine if everyone who owned a gun stood up proudly and made it clear how important it is to them instead of playing silly games thinking they've pulled one over on the government. Wouldn't we be a force to be reckoned with then?

Just voting for someone who isn't Hillary won't help. Pretty much all the Republicans running would sign an AWB if it came to their desk.
