USP45C vs Kimber Compact CDP

My Kimber Compact CDP has a single-sided thumb safety and McCormick thin grips. This little guy is very low profile for CCW with a Comp-Tac Ghurka IWB and the single-stack mag in a SideArmor mag carrier.

But lately I've been hankering for a USP45C. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because I feel like I need a little brother for my nightstand/SHTF handgun, a USP45F.

Comparing the data on HKPRO to the data on Kimberamerica, the USP45C by the numbers should be slightly smaller in every direction except height. But somehow I find that hard to believe. The USP45C just looks chunkier.

Anybody have both that can give a more subjective comparison?

Derek,

I carried a USP45C for a few months before my P7M8 holster came in.

The USP45C is a decent gun if it fits your purposes, but I wouldn't call it a good 'little brother' for the fullsize since they don't share common magazines. If you want a total of 5 magazines, that's $120 for 3 extra mags. Let's say you want a double magpouch and a holster, averaging $50 a piece, that's another extra $100. Then you're gonna have all this extra plastic (or leather) and mags laying around that aren't compatible....

While the compact 1911 would be a good companion for the Government sized 1911, the tactical logisticality just isn't there.

OTOH you have similar manual of arms and as good reliability as you can expect in any Europistol.

I have the USP & USPc 9. As SKunk has mentioned, no mag compatibilty :( The one thing I have that they share is the similar triggers. Regardless of which USP I pick up, I know the triggers & the sights very well.

If you're looking for a good HK .45c, I can point you to the one I just traded in for my Sig. It's had about 500 rounds through it and shows only slight holster wear. It also has 3 mags, the box and everything else. I think the shop I traded it to has it listed about $520. It was very much babied.

I'm glad the USP45C and the USP45F don't have magazine compatibility -- the USP45C would really be fat.

As an aside, I don't find the 1911 compact and the 1911 to be that "tac-log" -- the magazine holder is just about the only thing they share well. If I'm carrying the compact I don't want to wear a full-size 1911 IWB holster although it would fit -- it's just not as comfortable. The magazines don't really interchange well but look similar enough that they can be confused.

I'm interested in the USP45C primarily because the safety, trigger, unique mag release, etc are shared in common with the USP45, which has got to be worth something for familiarity.

As for tactical logisticality in holsters/pouches, that isn't a goal that makes much sense for me to pursue -- I've already got plastic for Glocks, 1911's and USPF, what's one more set? (Other than cost of course.)

I would love to find one for $520 -- around here they're going for $875 new (stainless slide USP45C). But I'm in NorCal.

I have a USPc .45 and a Kimber Ultra CDP. The Ultra is smaller than your compact, so this might be meaningless to you, but since I got the Ultra, the USPc has fallen by the wayside. It will be reduced to bedside gun, possibly.
