Picked up a 649 today as I have been wanting a small snub nose 38 for a while. looks new with the 1 7/8" barrel. Plan on using it as a small carry in some places

I will try later this evening to do some photo's
Can not find to much on this pistol thats like this one.

I look in the blue book and wonder about it.
The 1 7/8 barrel in the 649 says it was only made in 1998.
And it being in 38 s&w spl and not the 357.
all the other ones that look like it are the 638 but this has the small style square butt.
It is marked 649-2 with the ser # BRS
I do not think it has been fired and came with a bucheimer concel leather holster.
He said he has one that looks just like it in blue also I can have but really can not say much about it untill I see it and look at the model # and barrel and the such to see what it really is. my guess it is a older one.
Man thats a small grip!

fun stuff

I have two .38 Special 649s, one a 649-2.
Both wear Uncle Mike's rubber boot grips.
I find them to conceal well in a pocket holster and make recoil more manageable.
If yours doesn't have Uncle Mike's grips it might be worth finding some.

I have shot my guns at distances from three to 50 yards. Don't believe folks who say short .38s won't work past a car length.

I think the Model 649 is one of the greatest snubbies of all time. Hard to beat the stainless steel construction, J frame size, and that shrouded hammer design. I really like the Rogers Combat grips, as they give me a good purchase on the grip right out of the holster, and also point on target very naturally for me.

I love bodyguards, make mine a pre lock .38spl please. I had a 649, $215 in 2001. Somewhat beat, sadly it eventually started having timing issues. I rarely see them for sale and when I do they are well used.

it does have the rubber grips on it but do not see a maker on them and have not taken them off to see under them. Nice grips also.

i have lots of reloads but will go down and pick up some hp's today for it and might even ccw it today and see what its like. i guess we need a ccw weapon for every occasion LOL
