Just wanted to know how much shared interest in the following. I was at the Gun Club the other day (Delaware County Field And Stream) talkin with 5 guy at the table and the subject came up about common interest and of the 5, 4 were pilots and 3 were Amature Radio Operators.(N3XKV)So I got to wondering how common these activites were with those evil "Gun Nuts".

How Many Pilots?
How Many Radio Operators?
Or other common interest

I'm sure there are several motorcyclists on the board.
'91 Ducati 851 here.

Not a pilot, but always wanted to get my license.
I'd also be a regular skydiver if I could afford it.

But of course gun collector is one of my hobbies too :D

I've got an interest in motorcycling too. If everything goes as planned, I'll be buying around the new year.
Does being a single parent count as an activity or an interest?

I love motorcycling, on and off road, I use a dirt bike for my daily driver. I would fly if it was more convinient, I have friends who fly so I may get a chance. I think being a gun collector, shooter, etc makes you more likely to have other physical type hobbies.

Biker here :).

If any Highroaders in the SF Bay Area are about to start on a bike, call this a standing offer for instruction. Just supply gas money :). It's a lot trickier than it looks. I've been a "bike only" guy for about 15 years, used to streetrace back around '86/'87. If I wasn't so friggin' big, I could have raced for real. Oh well.

No pilot, nor radio amateur (that's what ham radio is called here) - I'd like a bike but have no time to make the extravagant insurance costs worth it...

but I'm pretty sure all here from an inherent reason share some extent of interest towards computers and the Net. :scrutiny:

What about working dogs?

I thought maybe it was a pre req ...

Have raced dirt bikes.
When the law changed and said one had to have motorcycle license and couldn't ride with reg DL I gave up. ( well legally)
Have raced cars, strip, street. (some question the latter being past tense):p
My shooting buddy and Dr does the radio bit.
I used to have some friends that had small planes, crop dusters (FUN) and helicopters. When I turn 50 I will skydive...its... nevermind...gotta do this once...wingwalk perhaps.

I'm a good cook, I read.

Since going back to school I don't get to some things I had time for...but I will. Learning the CIS/IT stuff at the moment...

Pilot - Yes.

I hang out at a couple of usenet (remember that?) groups relating to aviation. It's amazing to see the number of RKBA supporters and handgun shooters over 'there'. The homebuilt group is especially independent.

I'm restoring a '58 Champ in my garage; bought it as a damaged basket case. I have single-engine land & seaplane ratings.

Radio - No.

Motorcycles - Used to, but not for ~30 years.

Dogs - Have 1.

Computer geek - Nope, other than work-related stuff.

Got a ham license, haven't used it in an age.

Ditto a private pilot glider license.

Motorcycle, BMW R1100R. Ride 1 or 2 times a week.

Geocaching. See www.geocaching.org . Hide and seek for adults, using a GPS. Good excuse for a walk in a nice place. BTW, it looks like a fairly high number of cachers are also shooters.

I've had some flight time in fixed wing small aircraft and rotary craft. No license but I was working towards it. Too much money.

As for other hobbies, computers, writing, cars etc. The shooting thing pretty much uses up my disposable hobby income right now though.

Things I like to do besides shooting?

Diving (water, not sky),
Audio Engineering,
Computers (working on a completely silent PC project right now...),

I like to cook too, but (thank God) my wife is way way better than I am.

Most of the other hobby stuff is taking a backseat to shooting lately...which is fine with me :)

New biker, about 600 miles and a month and half of riding. Is it possible to love cruisers and sportbikes? Although I tend to prefer standard V-twins.

Loved cars since I can remember. Used to be an avid autoXer in my CRX. Stopped autoXing after I decided to throw in a new motor, lost interest 90% into the motorswap, discovered bikes. I'll just autoX my daily driver now.

Used to be a musician, can still sight read and my ears are still pretty good at tuning.

Play alot of pool. If I didn't have the above hobbies I'd be tempted to get a $300 cue stick.

Hum, now we're getting a lot closer.

I have two dogs (one named Ruger). Technically they're both working dogs, but they think they're on disability. They just lay around the house drinking all day long... :)

Martial arts? No.

Making music? Not for a long time. Used to play several instruments.

Baking/cooking? You bet. I make all of my own bread, and am a very good cook.

Beer? No, not really.

Live Theatre anyone ?

Hey, if you had the young cute instructor I had in the cast of "Pajama Tops" you would have gone too. :D

"Swiss Family Robinson" at the Children's Theatre , at least they used prop guns practiced 4 rules, went bang with smoke and all. Took the nephew $10 for the both of us.More entertaining and better gun safety than a Hollweird flick.

Another biker here. Used to be a M/cycle courier in Central London (when I was young and foolish).

Computer Geek (still pays the bills)

Good enough cook to have people come back for more. And I bake my own bread too.

But my big thing is Fiber Arts. I spin my own yarn, design and knit all sorts of stuff. I've just started to get into dyeing yarn and am giving serious consideration to learning to weave.

My current major project is knitting hats, scarves, mittens, etc. for a local Homeless Vets shelter -- I've enlisted a few friends so we'll have a big pile of nice warm stuff to give them around Veterans' Day.

and to keep it gun-related, I've always used gun oil to lubricate my spinning wheel -- good machinery deserves good oil!

I'm a computer geek and musician, I don't know if music would qualify as a hobby anymore though since it always feels like it's work and for the time I spend playing I get paid more than I do at my regular job.

Let's see... military history is certainly one.

Kenjitsu is another, although I haven't had any formal instruction in years. My friend and I keep each other sharp (and bruised).

Not to mention my service in the Massachusetts volunteer militia. But I only get to do that once a month. :)

Then there'd be politics, scotch, politics, bourbon, politics... wait a second.

Not a pilot, but I've been through ground school. Seems like a shortage of funds in my case, too.

Did the warbird thing for about ten years, flying as a crew member in WWII airplanes to airshows around the country.

Amateur Radio Operator WB7VHR, for more than a quarter century. Extra Class.

High Power Sport Rocketry. (See my handle.) The BATFE is beating this hobby to death, however.

Like to shoot my Garand and M1 Carbine, but don't get to often enough.

Motorcycling - took the ABATE class a year or so ago, presently in the market for a first bike.
Ham radio - No, although my Dad is a ham so I picked up a little bit about it.
Flying - I promised myself that as soon as I got my first motorcycle, I'd concentrate

Aside from shooting, I'm into audio engineering (mobile DJ and front-of-house), knifemaking, gunmaking, amateur machining, and, recently, adventure racing. I also read a lot and write a little.

(Ex) pilot -USAF. "High Flight" notwithstanding, for me it was just a job I performed for the Air Force.

(ex) HAM - I left the activity when a majority of those on the air got there by casual use of their credit card instead of diligent use of the drill press and soldering iron; that changed things. I continue to monitor domestic and international shorrt wave, but much of that has moved to satellite.

Motorcyclist: You bet! Both cruising & off-road!

Sailing - both racing & cruising; am I the only one?

Shooting - pistol & long guns; I do a bit of competition.

Reloading - of course.

I used to skydive and rebuild trashed motorcycles, but I gave that up when I decided old age had a little merit. These days I doubt I could pass an FAA physical, so I suppose flying is going to be out. No decent wild rivers close to here, and I probably don't have the endurance for kayaking anymore. A couple of guys at work always were after me to get my amateur radio license, so that may be next unless it ends up taking too much time and money away from shooting. Used to shoot competitively, but then I got divorced and decided to spend that time at home since the company improved at that point in my life. :D

For now, it's cooking, computers, dogs, cats and the new wife who shoots. She is trying to get started in brewing and winemaking, and has made some terrific mead that should be even better in a year or so.

Dang but I sound domestic these days...

Operated the MARS system on USS TRENTON LPD-14 in the Med, so sailors could call home, 1986.

But people, WHERE ARE THE FLY FISHERMEN? Tying your own is the equivalent of handloading. You can go with bamboo rods and silk lines, just like the muzzleloaders, or fast graphite rods and plastic lines like the black rifle types. You can fish for experienced, selective trout which may not be huge but you'd better be accurate, like a bullseye shooter, or you can go in the salt for a brute fight with a 100-lb tarpon, like the big game hunters. Endless fun. AND, Agricola et. al. , England makes fine bamboo and superb Hardy reels and Partridge hooks from Alnwick. France is famous for her Pezon et Michel parabolic rods, and is selling good silk lines again.

Classical guitar, homebrewing, bicycle racing in my younger days, columnist for a right-wing fascist website, husband, father of five, gastroenterologist. That'll have to hold me for now.

I flyfish...well I don't get to do some stuff as I once did. Took a class and learned to tie flies...kit is put up, I use what I have, or I get from my buddy(gasp have bought sow bugs at the fly shop). I'll get back into it. Though I use Orvis and Sage rods. I still get the biggest kick out of 20 year old glass rods bream, crappie, bass...single action martins and having fun.

I'd probably tie my thumb instead of a fly nowadays...
Oh you ever use the Krups coffee bean grinder...wait for the wifey to finish chewing you out...then tell her..."Honey the coffee bean grinder is in the kitchen...this new one is mine for flyfishing". I thought the guys in white coats might get called that night.:D
