Good guns---would give the 870 a run for its money in the big scheme of things---if the stock would come off for replacement---and if there were more accessories out there for it.
Around here $299 for the black---$349 for the camo.
The forearm rattle is livable.

I like the Nova very much. It's a well-thought-out and well-built shotgun. My only beefs about it are:
1. You can't remove the stock, and it's a PITA to change the length-of-pull by shortening the stock;
2. It's difficult to fit third-party recoil pads to the stock without some sort of adaptor;
3. The rattling fore-end REALLY gets my goat!
I wouldn't be surprised if Remington had taken a very long, hard look at the Nova: in the next generation of their pump-action shotguns, I daresay we'll see some similar features. However, with the 870 still outselling all the competition combined, I think it'll be some time before we see a replacement... if it ain't broke, don't fix it, seems to be Remington's attitude.

The Nova's a good shotgun, with the glitches already noted.
The Nova will get Remington off its butt and moving. I expect to see new 870s with....
Zytel or other synthetics used for one piece forearms and action bars, a drop in replacement for the present setup. Advantage, lighter weight. Same for synthetic forearm nuts, mag caps, bolt carriers and so on. A 6 1/2 lb 12 gauge 870 for upland work with 26" carbon fiber wrapped barrel would be easy. Swap a few parts and it's a 7 1/4 lb waterfowler.
Synthetic and wooden stocks with spacers and shims like the Berettas to alter LOP, drop and pitch. Many folks do well with the standard stock, but non average folks' needs are not met now. A basic stock with 13 1/2" pull and those spacers and shims will adjust to handle 95% of all shotgunners.
Back to the Nova. Just like car racing leads to big improvement in family cars, I expect Practical Competition to lead to some major upgrades in repeating shotguns. Novas seem to be designed for Practical competition, with the exception of that stock.

Dave...for once we agree on something!! :D :D :D
Seriously tho I really hope everything you said comes to be...I'd love a lightweight 870 Police.

Sheslingers pump gun of choice is the Nova and it is my second choice right behind the ole' 870.
Forearm rattle is not a big deal. My only complaint is that it is a bit too long for me to comfortably shoulder and you can't replace the stock. It doesn't bother Sheslinger a whit and it really doesn't bother me that much at all but the 870 fits me better.
They seem to be a little tight when they are new but after a couple hundred rounds the forearm really loosens up and it is very fast to manipulate.
Now on to the good stuff. 3.5 inch shells whoooa mamma. If they don't teach you to hold that sucker correctly ain't nothing that will. What a blast. Very fun and very versatile.
All in all I think it is a spectacular shotgun second only to the 870. There are pieces of each I would like to see on the other so in the end it's close to a wash.
You won't be wasting your money.
