Like and collect 'em both. Each was purchased based on a specific desire, and none has anything to do with the other. For me, each gun holds it's own special mojo.
Only two guns I've ever let go in my life, both handguns.
A 9mm SIG SP2022 as moving out gift to daughter #1. It was replaced a mere hours later with a .40S&W verision of the same model.
And a Springfield XD-40 4". Sold to a friend of mine. Just didn't care for it, and he needed another gun.

Sorry, I don't see a poll. Maybe it didn't come up for some reason. I have been more interested in handguns for the last year or so. 'Course I still have rifles & shotguns from when I was into hunting. Nothing fancy just good enough to take a deer or small game & one old mossberg model 500 cruiser pump gun for home defense purposes. Course if you look at the rifle & shotgun subforums I don't think there is any shortage of threads there.

Three each of handguns and rifles.
I prefer my handguns for carry since I haven't found an IWB holster for an AR.

handguns, rifles, shotguns, compound bows, recurve bows. I have more bows than guns. more handguns than shotguns, but more rifles than handguns. sufficiently confused yet?

As the old saying goes, having a whole bunch of different kinds of guns is the spice of life. Somebody eventually coined a term for this concept, but I forgot what the word was.
I tell myself that I only really need/want about 30 firearms. That of course is a lie. As one accumulates more firearms, the niche of weapon A becomes more specific with the purchase of weapon B, and alas, a new middle ground between the two even appears! Surely there's some gun that is perfect for whatever that niche may be. If I ended up marrying some crazy broad, however, I could be happy with it somewhere around 25 I believe.
Of those 25, I would guess they would be distributed as such:
5 Shotguns
5 Revolvers
5 Autoloaders
10 Rifles

That's between me and and my husband, most are shared, mostly, but we each have our own shotgun. Fit is too important there to easily share.

I prefer handguns, certainly. They bring me the most joy in owning and collecting them them. BUT .. it only makes sense that there are situations which would require longguns. And sometimes.. well heck, a longgun is just what you happen to find a deal on. I don't really like to say how many guns I own online (it's not THAT many at all compared to some folks here), but My handguns outnumber my longguns at a 3:1 ratio.

I'm first and foremost a handgunner, but I do have some rifles and 2 shotguns.
I like the old mil-surps -SKS, Mosin Nagant. WANT A Garand.
Beware, once you go down the mil-surp rifle path, forever will it dominate your destiny! :D

It's a sin to have only handguns, since their purpose is to give you the ability to fight your way to a long gun.
Or so I've been told.
I currently own:
47 handguns ( 32 autos, 15 revolvers)
14 shotguns (7 autos, 4 pumps, 1 side-by-side, 2 over-under)
29 rifles (3 full-autos, 15 semiautos, 6 bolt actions, 4 lever action, one single shot)
Nah, I'm just playing.
I can dream, can't I?
But seriousy, I own both handguns and long guns. I can't quite say which activity is my favorite. There's something to be said about the recoil of shooting a semiauto as fast as you can while maintaining control. On the other hand, I really enjoy shooting trap and skeet as well as punching holes with my handguns. If I had to choose, I would say that busting clays with the shotty is my favorite because it involves moving targets and I'm partaking in the activity with others. And yet I own only two shotguns, one of which is not suitable for clays.

I shoot most everything. Primarily, I'm a handgunner, but rifles come a close second as much of the time as I can shoot them.
I shoot shotguns as well, but frankly I'm not much of a wingshooter. That's my next goal.

Have a 3 digit amount of guns, 2/3 to 3/4 are always handguns. I feel shotguns are versatile enough that I don't really need more than one or two with extra barrels but I own way more than I need just for fun like the handguns. I own too many rifles due to milsurp mostly which the combination of generally low prices and historical interest makes them somewhat irresistable.
Handguns I can shoot at a local indoor range sort of within walking distance and take up much less space. Storing 40-50 long guns let alone more than that is a burden in my small home.

One day I realized I had more than 30 variations of one kind of rifle. I have a lot of other rifles too, but then I compared it to hand guns. I shoot them a lot more than I do rifles. I've never even shot about half the rifles. So I quit buying long guns. I've got two shotguns. One that is hell on birds and clays another for home defense. That's all I need of them.
But, some years back I began focusing on handguns. I pick up an occasional rifle now and then, but try and avoid it. I have my guns on a rotation schedule for cleaning and it never ends. Handguns are just easier and faster to clean so it just makes more sense. Already spend more time cleaning than I do hand loading and shooting put together.

I like guns. I enjoy handgunning, but I also enjoy shooting my mil-surp rifles, I like pheasant hunting and shooting clays, and I like shooting rimfire. I can't imagine ever narrowing my interest in shooting and guns down to just one finite discipline. I will say that "new" rifles don't catch my interest anywhere near as much as new handguns do, and I lost all interest in different shotguns after I got my 870, just because it works so well for me. But still, I am an all-around shooter.

Aside from an 870 I've had for years, I've been pretty much an exclusive handgun guy until recently. Bought an AR-15 built on a Rock River lower with a Colt upper that someone didn't want. Liked it so much I had Rock River build a complete one. Ordered it around Christmas and hoping it gets here within the week.
Now I just gotta sift through the pages of AR-15 material - so much to learn. But when it comes down to it, I still love handguns.

handguns (many)
rifles (many)
shotguns (a couple)
multiple black powder versions of modern guns above
while the proportions vary over time, the use breakdown is 70% handguns (modern and blackpowder), 28% rifles (mostly BP), and the rest shotguns (modern and BP)

I'm a victim of the natural progression of Gunsite readers. I started out Handgun only, but soon, I remembered I HAD to have a Shotgun. Soon, the EOTWAWKI threads got to me and I had to have a rifle too.
Now it's just a matter of how much more can I afford before the Evil Liberals try and take all my guns away.

Interesting.
But it seem that those who vote for handguns ONLY will eventually pick up rifles too, I bet.
This pool actually helps me out on future purchases.
I guess we should limit ourselves to handguns ONLY.

I'm just handguns at the moment. I keep telling myself that I'd like to take up shooting clays if my schedule allows... then I'll be handguns, and maybe 1 or 2 shotguns.
I DO drool over the Walther g22 rifle, the Beretta Cx4 Storm, AR rifles with funky purple plastic, and .38/.357 leverguns with lots of polished walnut... but I know I'd never shoot them! They'd just collect dust.

Mostly handguns.
Some rifles, but my few rifles are chambered for handgun ammo, (e.g. Marlin 1894P in .44 Mag, 16" barrell :D).
For some reason I find myself lusting for a black rifle these days. Must be due to uncertain times ahead.
