Spotting Scope for range use

What power scope is necessary to see targets well at 100 yards? I don't want to put much into a spotting scope, I just need something adequate for the shooting range.

and it's really a nice scope. You can easily see bullet holes at 200 yards, and it comes in a nice hard case.

I can see 30 caliber bullet holes through my 2.5 - 8x Leupold rifle scope at 8x at 100 yards, so if you happen to be using the standard 3-9 x 40 scope of high quality, you're already good to go. You have a very low bar to jump over, there. At 100 yards, even the cheapest "spotting scope" will do that for you too.

But people who are familiar with optics will repeatedly tell you that magnification is not the determining factor for resolution. For instance, I can see more detail through my quality 14x riflescope than I can see through my (worthless to me) 100 dollar, 30x "spotting scope".

Pretty much any pair of good 10X binoculars will do what you want at 100 yards. Mounting your optic where you can look through it without touching it will be half the battle, and finding anything that can be used while wearing your shooting glasses is the other half of the battle. Using the "shoot-n-see" targets makes it that much easier to see your hits.

I just got a Leupold Gold Ring spotter, because it was the first spotting scope I've ever seen in person that had enough eye relief to be used at all magnifications while wearing glasses, and that was of decent quality. I've gone through entire inventories at gun stores and not found a single one that could be used with glasses. Go figure. I thought these scopes were for shooters, but there is apparently some huge market out there that I do not understand, and that is not identified in any of the litterature.
