Shotty Optics Rails????????

So I am seeing a trend with the social shotguns that they are coming with optics rails on the receivers. HK FP6 and the auto cousin, the Winchester X2 tactical or whatever it is called etc.

So for those of you who have ever used a shotgun for social work what is the point. I just can't see where any red dot, low power scope etc. would really benefit the user for the primary mission of a shotgun. Heck I am happy with a bead on the end, but ghost rings are kinda nice.

Now cooliwannaaddlostsofubertacticalstuff aside is there really any purpose to these on a shotty designed for relatively close in encounters say out to 25 yards. I guess it could help with slugs out to farther ranges but a good set of rifle or ghost rings should do the job just fine and be a heck of a lot lighter and more robust.

I am just curious really.

//gunshopcommando mode = on// The do look cool though:D

night vision is a good reason, an eotech or reflex is another.

Increased profits for the manufacturers.

I always thought the only time you put a scope on a SG was for slugs. That usually meant to also too much money burning a hole in someone's pocket, too. ;)

The night vision sounds interesting...and expensive. :D

A couple things....

I see these as nice to haves but not absolutely needed on a civilian weapon. Of course, there's few absolutes in shotgunning.

Scope mounts on shotguns have been a perennial problem. This would make a better mousetrap, as it were, by being more likely to stay zeroed than saddle mounts or the precarious mounting on thin receiver metal.

Good places to mount NVDs, lights etc. I've been getting some input on low light shoots and lazers which is quite thought provoking. Haven't trusted them in the past, but that may change.
