Stock finishing

What kind of stain/sealant combination is good for a walnut stock on a mil-surp rifle? What about beech? Stocks are new and have no finish at all.

Boiled Linseed oil was commonly used by the military (if you don't mind waiting weeks or months for it to completely dry.)

Tung oil seems to be a favorite of amature mil-sup refinishers now.

I would probably just use Birchwood-Casey Tru-Oil and Geterdone!
