I am considering putting a rifle basix trigger on the above gun. Is it that much better than the stock trigger? I would be getting the one that uses the safety, as it is for hunting.

I have put them in both of my Remington 700 deer rifles. Set both to 2lbs, and YES, they do feel much better than the factory triggers. The factory triggers are good enough, and can be adjusted to an extent, but if you have a little extra money that you want to spend for an easy upgrade to your rifle this is an easy one. BTW, you don't need the new safety parts. It's not hard to transfer the one from the factory trigger if you pay attention. Go for it. I can't imagine any other trigger that you may pay $150-300 for could be much if any better. Good product.

I adjusted my 700 trigger down to a crisp 8oz. It was my first trigger job too ;). Tried using an online guide (not that helpful) but once I screwed it up and tried to fix it, I figured out how it worked and got it just right. No creep, nice and sharp. Give it a try, may save you a few bucks. Start out with a guide to figure out which screw is which and get an idea on what to do.

I adjusted both of my factory triggers before I bought the Rifle Basix triggers also. First 2 trigger jobs as well. Just adjusting the front 2 screws, I couldn't get mine less than 3lbs, but it was very easy to do, and the factory trigger is good enough for any hunting. Maybe I could have got it less if I could have got the rear screw to break loose, but I had a little extra cash and bought 2 Rifle Basix and they were an easy upgrade. I like 2lbs myself, but to each his own on trigger pull weight.

In order to get less than 3lbs you have to reduce the ammount of sear engagement (back screw). When I bought the rifle the guy at the gun store said to not adjust the sear engagement, but I wanted less than 3 lbs. The problem with changing the sear engagement is it can make the rifle unsafe if not tested before sealing it back up. I bounced mine off the floor HARD about 8 times and clicked the safety on and off hard and fast a few times before I was sure it was safe.
Anywho, Happy Adjusting!
