The American Revolution was fought by minutemen, ready with their guns at a moment’s notice. Early Americans believed that a militia, composed of citizen-soldiers, was a better safeguard of their liberties than a standing or permanent army. Today the militia consists of the National Guard, drilling in state units. Does the Second Amendment protect only the right of the states to have militias, or does it give individuals a right to bear arms for self-defense as well as national defense? That question is at the heart of the debate over the Second Amendment and gun control.

whatta a crock

if the constitution was written to be understood by poor men with not much education why do we need scholars to interpret it?

Don't forget the Dick Act. From 1903 or thenabouts. Up until then the Militia Act of 1792 (much amended) was still in effect. Only vestige left is IRS must leave you one weapon when they seize your property.

Hmmm, given the tone of her commentary there's not much doubt on which side of the issue she favors. :banghead:

Once again, no wonder kids are so liberal.

Check out just about any large history museum in the US and you'll see plenty of 2nd amendment (and other) revisionism.
The Smithsonian in DC almost made my blood boil over last time I was there.....

Not to mention the error in the statement regarding the National Guard, which is not the militia.
