Anyone have any experience with the EAA Saigas? CDNN is selling the 7.62x39 for $160, so I was thinking of picking one up. I wanted to make sure I'm not just tossing my cash away. I am also possibly interested in one chambered for .308...
Thanks for any input.

I have 2 of the 308-1 Saigas. I really like them. They are accurate, very dependable and easy to scope. With their chrome lined barrels, I doubt I could ever wear one out.

Good guns for a good price. And they can always be converted to accept standard AK mags or even converted into a AK-100 series if you want. Only issue with the .308 is that you are limited to factory 8 rnd mags.

I have one in 7.62x39 converted to look like an AK-103. It now takes regular AK mags. I like it a lot . AAMOF, I recently swapped off my SAR-1 figuring that with the Saiga I have a much nicer AK.

American Rifleman did a review of the Saiga .308 recently in the Dope Bag. Don't recall which issue.
They basically said reliability was perfect, accuracy was good, trigger pull was awful. This is prolly limited to the .308 version, though. It has a longer action, and the trigger has to operate through some kind of extended mechanism to trip the sear. The other calibers don't have that extended trigger mechanism.
They get pretty high reviews on AK-47.net.

The triggers on the others feel like AK triggers. Which of course they are. They are OK. The 308 version pulls up and back. I'm thinking of ordering either the .223 or the 7.62x39

Anyone here have the .223 saiga? I'd like a semi-auto rifle in that caliber, but both the Mini-14 and the AR-15 (any flavor) are a bit rich for my blood..at this point. I think one in .223 and one in 7.62x39 would be a nice set. :)

Here goes... pic (http://www.thehighroad.org/attachment.php?s=&postid=393409) vid (http://members.surfeu.fi/axel.airo/home/119_1983.12.avi)
It's a Kobra-sighted 7,62x39 Saiga M3EXP-01 directly from Izhmash JSC, got it a couple weeks ago. It came with two proprietary 30-rd mags (that had a 10-rd limiter wire inside, off in one minute flat): the next thing is to schlep it to the smith for threading the muzzle for comp/suppressor and a mag well and bullet guide conversion so I can use Finnish mags. So, is it generally accepted that the EAA import Saigas are not mutilated as bad as the Hesse Saigas? I've heard bad things about Hesse, but not EAA.
Thanks for all the input so far, mucho gracias.

Actually, mine was converted by Hesse, and surprisingly is not a POS. I have a couple quibbles with the conversion: the sling swivel they installed on the butt is small, and they milled off the lug to hold the cleaning rod. Other than that it looks and shoots great.

The EAA Saigas seem to be fine. The Hesse ones that they didn't screw around with (just standard Saiga's) were fine too. It's when Hesse starts "enhancing" them that you run into problems.

The EAA Saigas are a great value. I was debating getting a Saiga,an SAR or a WASR but after handling several of each the overall quality, fit and finish of the Saiga was so much better there was no contest. I bought a 7.62x39 16" carbine. It shoots great, very reliable and even if I add the parts to legally convert it to an AK-103 clone it`s still very cost effective. I wouldn`t mind getting one in .308 and 12ga. too. :) Marcus

I have the Saiga 7.62x39 and am well pleased with it's accuracy. I use the Kobra red dot and it hold zero nicely.
I have been shooting Barnual ammo from Sportsman's Guide.
I think it is a great buy. New AK action that shoots a lot tighter than I expected.
I don't need a 30 rnd mag anyway.
