Finally, my first "real" Sig Sauer.....

Finally after 10 years of handguns I own a "real" Sig. For a short time (less than a week) I owned a SigPro, and really didn't like it.

In the last few weeks I decided that I would finally try a "classic" Sig, and why not go for the grand daddy of them all the P220.

The last time that I really considered getting a "classic" Sig, was when I was deciding between a HK USPc .40S&W or a Sig 229. Needless to say that I made the wrong choice.

But now I have finally become bona fide Sig owner.

On Monday I picked up a very nice West German(1995) made Sig 220 that has been fully chromed.

Came with the new style of grips and the older checkered style, which i prefer. Also, had 3 magazines that were also refinished in silver.

Haven't shot it yet, but it sure feels nice in my hand and points correct for me.

Here are a couple of pictures.

boots,

It's an alloy frame.

Not sure who did the chroming, wish I did because they did a very nice job.

My friend now wants to chrome his.:D

You'll like it even better once you shoot it!

What was wrong with the USP? Was it a terrible something or other or was it just not quite perfect? Just want to know whether it was truly a bad decision or just a purchase in the wrong order.

BTW, the P220 looks sweet. I need one to add to the P226 and SIGPro2340 collection.

Destructo6,

The HK was actually a great gun, I just didn't connect with it.

I've been through a lot of guns, and hope now that I'm older and have a little more money, that I may acquire some of the better ones that i parted ways with.

Guns that I will definitely buy again:

Hk USP/USPc
Springfield XD
Glock 19/23/32
S&W 3953/3913
Kahr K/MK9

Maybe I should make a list of guns that I need to replace???

I want to buy my brothers German 220. It's an early model one and I haven't seen it in years but I think it has the mag release at the bottom of the grip. Am I just not remembering correctly? Did any of the early models come like that?

The early guns had the european style mag release. I too am a proud poppa of a new 220, I chose the stainless steel version. And the wife was nice enough to let me buy the light to mount on it.

Great guns, ain't they?

Welcome to the last gun you will ever own.

Ok, probably not but it will definitely make you look at other firearms differently for now they all must be measured on the SIG scale. You get the added benefit of getting to be a SIG snob. Now we can let you into our little club.

Seriously though I personally think the 220 is just about the epitomy of autoloaders. You got yourself a really nice gun and as long as it fits you and you like the controls you will love it. Never part with if you take to it because you will never forgive yourself if you do.

Congrats.

cslinger,

Thanks for the encouraging words about the 220.

I'm making a resolution to not sell anymore guns, unless they are just POS.

I'm also making a list of guns that I've owned and am going to replace. If I still had all of the guns that have passed through my hands, oh boy would I need a really big safe.

Maybe a really big safe should be the first thing on my list, come to think of it my current safe is limiting me to buying no more rifles????

I just picked up a sig 225 today and it is my first classic sig also (I already own a 2340 though and I love it.) This 225 though just feels like it fits me perfectly. Congrats on your 220, that might be my next sig!......tom

Q: What do you call a pimpin' chromed SIG P220?

A: The greatest pimpin' chromed 45ACP DA pistol on the planet.

:)

Nice pistol!

Congratulations on your latest purchase. It really looks awesome. I bought my Sig 229 right after they were initially released and would NEVER consider selling it. I've bought/sold many other guns over the years but could never part with my "original" favorite gun. Now I've added a couple Wilson's to the unsellable collection. I won't part with the Sig or my Wisons.
I'm also thinking about hard chroming my Sig or maybe NP3 plating sometime soon.

I for one consider my SigPro all Sig, all the time! It's a 2009 9mm.
