Per the Hawaii Rifle Association website the committee will be accepting email testimony until 1200 hrs. Friday. This measure will, if passed, certainly deter criminals from using handguns to commit crimes.:scrutiny: I have notified my friends and family and will be emailing my testimony once I get home from work, Loki.fish thanks for the additional info.

Bullet Serialization Bill to Be Heard in Hawaii House Judiciary Committee
Please Contact the House Judiciary Committee Today!
By NRA News, 1/31/2008 9:31:54 PM
On Friday, February 1, the Hawaii House Judiciary Committee will hear legislation what will have dire consequences for our Right to Keep and Bear Arms in Hawaii. The bill HB2392, would require all handgun ammunition manufactured or sold in Hawaii to be coded with a serialization number, and entered into a statewide database at the time of sale.

Encoded ammunition would be registered to the purchaser and would include the date of transaction, the purchaser’s name, date of birth, drivers license number, and the serial number of the ammunition. The procession or sale of non-coded/serialized ammunition would be prohibited.

Please contact the members of the House Judiciary Committee and respectfully urge them to protect the Second Amendment rights of Hawaii’s law-abiding gun owners by opposing HB2392.

where do they serilaize the bullet? On the actual bullet? or the casing?

if on the bullet, all a crook needs to do is rip the bullet out and gently file it off, then reinsert it. If its on the casing, then he can tape or glue a small bag to the ejection port and voila! no evidence for police to trace at the scene of the shooting. Then, he just discards the bag with the casings in a trash can.

Its like all they're doing is de facto-banning recreational shooting if you ask me.

The procession or sale of non-coded/serialized ammunition would be...
Ugh, idiots that cannot spell should not write for the newspaper.

Anyway, since the ammunition companies are probably not going to be able to do this economically, the Hawaii market for ammunition will be essentially closed. With that, there would be nothing to keep them from not selling their product to anyone in Hawaii, including the police and federal government even if they do write in a waiver. As an aside, isn’t cocaine illegal in Hawaii already? Not too hard to find it if you want it I bet. Now they’ll have a thriving black market in contraband ammunition.

According to the Hawaii Rifle Association website the bill was deferred indefinitely. No testimony in favor and lots of testimony against. Great news, at least for this year.

Still other bills pending for banning .50 bmg ammo and rifles, also bills requiring ammo buyers produce copies of their registrations for weapons in said calibers as well as a photo ID. The same bill will keep you from finding the source of the information that prevents you from getting a permit to acquire (if the disallowing is due to a mental health issue.) This same bill also prevents government entities from being held liable for injury and or damage from firearm use.

Refer to:
HB 2999
SB 2578
SB 2076
SB 2020

Bills that deserve our support, of course these were introduced by Senator Sam Slom.

SB 2278-Making CCW "shall issue."

SB 2279-Prohibiting seizure of firearms and ammo during Katrina type situations.

According to NRA-ILA, the coding bills have been defeated in Hawaii. Now to defeat them everywhere else.
