Pengun used to be a trademark (in this country) for a pen-shaped/sized gizmo which shot a teargas cartridge. They've been illegal in most places for years and years, don't know why. (Oh, just realized that might be because one could load an ordinary .38 cartridge in one. Sounds stupid, would probably blow up in the hand.)

It's been said that the pen is mightier than the sword. It took a while to prove it. BTW, years ago a firm was marketing "flare launchers" that didn't have a bbl. With a lathe, you could make your own bbl for a rimfire gun.

Years ago I purchased a .25 cal "pen gun" legally. I haven't touched it for years but as I remember it was legal because it could not be fired without breaking the pen at the pivot, which cocked the gun and dropped the trigger so that it could be activated.

It has a rudimentary safety device. It was more the novelty of it than any effectiveness it may have as you had to use two hands to ready it to fire.

Someone may remember the maker and post it. Haven;t seen these for years in the shops, not sure if they are still available.

If it must pivot (making a semi-gun-looking-shape) to fire, it can usually be sold as a pistol, while those that can fire from the straight-line configuration must be sold as Any Other Weapons (AOW) with a $200 tax stamp to make, and a $5 stamp to transfer.

Very interesting little toys, good if your pencils ever get snippy and you need to put them back in their place.
