View Full Version : Holster for Desert Eagle?

Last night I was at a dinner with like minded folk, followed by a "field trip" to the local gun shop. At that shop, they had what I considered to be a deal on a Mark I Desert Eagle. More importantly, Mrs. Plinker thought it was a deal too, so it followed me home. :D

Now I am looking for a holster for it, and I am hoping for some direction here. There are a few parameters.

It CANNOT be a shoulder holster. In other words I don't want a shoulder holster. These subtle hints are for those who will read this entire thread and then recommend a shoulder holster anyway. :neener: They don't fit me, and even if I were to find one that did, I do not dress in such a way that it would be practical.

I am not into tactical thigh holsters either.

I am looking for an OWB holster for open carry, walking about at the range, etc. I have found a few, but without exception, they have looked too flimsy to carry such a heavy firearm.

So why did I buy it? I have admired them from afar for years, although I am not into the video game thing (too old). But, the clincher was, it fits my hand like they used me for a model when designing the grip. And this thing in my paw looks like a normal pistol in a normal hand.

So if anyone here actually had one of these things, and an OWB holster for it, or knows of someone who makes one, I would be interested to hear about it.

Thanks.

Magnum Research has several holsters. A few nylon and a leather one.

Thanks Bob. I looked at them, but they look flimsy. I am going to call Magnum Research when they open up this morning and see if anyone can give me any details on the various ones they have. But they look awful skinny for holding something of this uhhhh, caliber. :uhoh: :)

Maybe "Thumper" is a member of this forum too and can help you out :)

Silvanus, my pants are already big enough without trying to stuff a DE inside! But I appreciate the thought. Maybe if I lose 50 lbs or so and keep the same drawers.... :uhoh:

Maybe one of these?

Or you could always go with a nice shoulder holster.

Hey PennsyPlinker,

I would suggest you take a look at this.

Oh, the Horror!

How many Cows have to Die to make a leather DE holster? :D

Thanks Jeff. That looks nice, but there is no retention strap. I would be worried about my gun falling out and putting a dent in the floor!

I see you are a holster maker too. Any chance of you making a DE holster with a retention strap where the gun is slung a little lower?

I wouldn't mind making one, but I don't think I can get a mold for that monster! If you were local I could help you out, but otherwise I don't have access to a Desert Eagle. Give Mernickle Holsters a call and see if he will add a retention snap (to be honest I really don't think you will need one, though). If I run into anybody that has a mold or can make your holster, I will definitely post it here.

Try contacting Rusty Sherrick, as he's in Pennsylvania. He has a pretty good selection of guns and holsters and may be able to accomodate you.

Thanks K-Man! I just got off the phone with Rusty, and we had a very nice conversation about how he would build a holster for this gun. Apparently he has a DE mold gun, as we were comparing measurements over the phone. Best of all, he is not that far from me, about 90 minutes each way, and it is not a bad ride either, so I may end up picking it up personally.

Might I add check out belts also. I have the DE50 and switched to a thigh rig because of the weight. Without a very good belt that thing starts to droop pretty quick. Carrying one of these on the hip for other than range time isn't fun. Other than that congrats on a gun you'll have a blast shooting. All pun intended...:)

Yeah, a belt is already in the works. He is going to need to strip a piece of hide off Babe the Blue Ox to get a belt big enough for me, but then again, everything about me is larger than normal. So I might as well carry a giant gun. :p

I'm in the same situation. I just got a Desert Eagle .50, and I don't care for shoulder holsters. I ordered a Blade-tech. It should be here in a couple of weeks.

Cordura is a very long way from being flimsy. It's ballistic nylon. Tough stuff that add no weight. Leather does. As mentioned, the belt is extremely important.

I had a custom shoulder holster made for mine and it carries two of them very nicely.
