Can someone tell me how to remove the magazine tube from a Winchester
Model 1400 12ga. Auto? I was told it is threaded into the reciever.

Why do you want to take it out?

I don't recall how they are attached, but I do recall Winchester warning about never to take them out unless you had access to the "special tool" used to do it.

I'm thinking they may have been a splined press fit, but I'm just guessing from an incomplete, long ago memory.

The tube is damaged and probably beyond repair. I have been told by one person it is threaded and a press fit by another.

Well, as I said, I don't know.

I suppose you could try a strap wrench and some heat on the receiver in case it has locktite or dried oil in the threads.
If it has threads?

Sounds like it's got to come out one way or another to replace it.

Perhaps you should get the replacement tube first and see what it looks like?

Do not consider this as a do-it-yourself job for most people. The part is impact seated and needs careful attention to remove and have a chance to re-use the related feed throat. That piece of plastic usually holds up for a good long time, but every now and then one will crack off a chunk. (Now your gun doesn't want to hold shells in the tube or has another feed-type failure) It is easier to damage during tube install and remove than from a bunch of firing.

Get that gun to a smithy or give me a yell.
