sorry this question might have been answered already but is the eotech 512 ideal for 100 yards? it's going on an .223 ar15 at max 100 yards.

Can I ask why you're limiting yourself to 100 yards? The 223 is no 1000 yard cartridge, but 100 isn't very far. Just curious.

for varmint hunting, if i wanted more distance i would've went with a scope but within 100 i'm thinkin the red dot should do the job. another question is i got a flat top with the removable handle, will the regular weaver for the a2 work with the a3 removable handle?

The 512 is great at distances from close quarters out to 100 yards or so.
a lot of varmint shooting is at longer ranges. you can add a 3x or 4x magnifier to the 512 but that would increase (about double) your cost of optics. The 512 has an integral rail mount and needs no other hardware to mount on your flattop A3 unless you want to raise it a bit or have a QD lever mount.

The thing I have found with the EoTech is, if you still can see it clearly, you can hit it.
Even well past 100 yards.
I also found that I can shoot some very nice groups at 100 yards by turning the gain down until I can just barely see the dot.
At higher brightness, it is more pixalated, appears larger then it really is, and less precise.
i know they run around $400+ but i can't remember where i found one $350 or perhaps a used one. can anyone lead me towards where i can get one for a good price??

yeah i like the aimpoint look but for the price of an aimpoint plus the mount cost as much as an eotech, but the eotech needs no mount for the a3 flat top and it is made pretty much level for where the rear sight would be....
I second the choice of opticsplanet.com, I purchased a 552 from them a few years ago. So far, all the service I have received from them has been excellent.
