I don't know about the kit but the falling dollars sure has raised the prices for imported goods. I wanted a Lyman Great Plains Hunter and have just been watching the prices go to the sky. I saw one place on line that wanted $650 and most are in the $500 range. I went into Sportsmans Warehouse and they still had the old price on the one they had left, $420. I snatched that one up quick. So it pays to look around at places that sell them locally and see who still has old stock that they are selling at the price they set for it when they got it in stock.

That what this is all about the falling dollar? Man, the prices are sky high fer sure... Kits these days cost more than the finished pieces did a few years ago..

I got mine at MidSouth, as suggested above, and was very happy with the price. Best I found when I was looking.

Track of the Wolf has their Colonial Longrifle kit for $422. And just about all the rest for around $550. Tennessee Valley Manufacturing has kits at around the $550 mark.

For about $100 - $200 more you'll get a way better gun. While this may not be a big deal with the caplocks, if you're going to go with a flintlock, get the better gun. If I'm going to depend on a flintlock I'm going to want a Siler, or Jim Chambers, or L&R - along with a White-lightning touch hole liner.

Like it was stated before you can spend a little more and get a lot nicer gun most of the time. I lucked out and got a left handed Jackie Brown custom flintlock for 300. The stock had been cracked but considering it was an 800 to 1000 dollar gun I won't complain.
I have ordered some stuff from Track. They have a lot of good stuff.

I don't mean to knock the Lyman GPR - it is a great gun for the niche it filled. That is, it was a lot of gun for the $250 to $350 that you'd pay for it.

Was it as good as a semi-custom or American-made kite gun? Heck no. But not too long ago the price gap between the Lyman GPR and the American guns made the Lyman a great deal.

I think if the price of Italian made ML's continues to rise it will kill their market. I'm not going to pay $800 for a Pedersoli or Lyman when I can get something from Track of the Wolf or TVM for the same price.

But still... it's sad in a way... to have to pay $400+ just for a muzzleloader. I mean for guys just starting out... Or guys like me with sons just starting out.

Think of it, The vendors who aren't jacking up the price to reflect what they are going to have to spend to replace it in their stock are some pretty good guys. If only gas was like that.

No doubt Pancho. If you can get a Lyman or Pedersoli for a reasonable price go for it - they're decent guns. But once the vendors refill their stock - you'll wish you bought now.

There's a little hardware store about an hour's drive from here that sells guns and reloading stuff. If you shoot an obscure caliber (like a .35 rifle) you can dig through the boxes of bullets and find one with an old price tag. I came home with a box of Hornady 250 grain bullets for $13 just last fall. All the newer boxes were going for $30 or better!

When I moved back to the country I went to the local hardware store and behold they had 6 boxes of 32-20 Winchester for $6 a box. I told him I'd buy them all and he gave me a discount. That was 10 years ago. I'm still grinning.
