I really like the draw action of these holsters, and I would love to carry one as my duty holster, but I have heard some reports that the mechanisms can jam up pretty easy. Do any of you know of any "torture tests" that have been done to test this problem, or how the SERPA holsters compare to "hooded" Safariland Duty holsters?

I broke the mechanism on my sepra in less than a week of owning it, but I think it might be fixable, I think the spring just slipped sideways

The problems I have heard (nothing verified by me personally) are that the "button" or release can get dirt and crud behind it, between the button and the body of the holster, and this prevents it from being depressed far enough to release the weapon. I have a friend who used one overseas in Afghanistan and said he didn't have any problems and liked it.

Depending on what kind if "duty" your talking about, if your a cop keeping your gear clean and in working order I wouldn't think you would have problems. If by "duty" you mean you'll be over in fine-sand-land then it might not be the best choice.

I'm thinking of picking up a SERPA soon and trying it out myself.

I have had mine for about 8 months, I use it to carry my XD while I ride my ATV, I have had them both covered in mud, sand, dust, grass, and it has yet to let me down, I usually dunk it under the creek water when I am heading out to clean it then a normal clean on both when I get home, I wn one for all my handguns that I carry

i have one for my xd that i have had for the majority of the time that i have owned my service model and i have been very happy with it, and it has been perfect for me, i like it alot. but there are some serious issues that have been documented and talked about by various trainers. check out www.getoffthex.com the tactical response forums, they have a big write up about the issues and the problmes that have been caused by the holster in the past, ad's, gun getting stuck in the holster not being able to come out etc. as a matter of fact tactical response no longer allows students to attend thier courses with the use of the "serpa" holsters.

I've been using one for about a year with my G22. I haven't had any problems with it. I'd say at least 10 other agents use them as well, nobody has any complaints.

I have one, I like it, but the paddle broke after about 4-5 months of regular use. I took it back to the store where purchased and they replaced the paddle, it was kind of disturbing to have that happen. I have not had any problems since, about 1 year now..
