X-Die: what would happen if I don't pre-trim?

Just out of curiosity, if I don't pre-trim brand new brass 0.020 less than trim-to length like the instructions call for, what would happen? Would the neck get too thick because the brass has nowhere to flow during subsequent resizing operations?

the neck would jam up against the collar inside the die..like it's supposed to...but the shoulder would be collapsed as you force the sizing operation.you'd be pushing the case up wards, and when it hit the 'stop'something else has to give, probably the shoulder.
OR ,the neck would override the 'stop' and ruin neck tension.
