First off, you can put the side saddle on yourself. Second, just ship the barrel and recever, that should make it a bit smaller and less weight. Im pretty sure you can ship long guns through USPS, just send it priority or overnight if your worried

I find that the United States postal service is more convenient and less costly than UPS/FedEx.

You can legally ship long guns via US mail.

You can legally ship long guns via US mail.

As long as the recipient is an FFL, which in this case it seems he would be. Just didn't want someone else seeing that and getting confusicated.

The 2 or 3 times I've sent long guns through the US mail I think it cost me something like 16-18 bucks each time. That included the insurance for loss.

You can ship long guns via US mail (as well as UPS/FedEx) to any legal recipient.

It is left as an exercise to the reader to find out what "legal recipient" means in their neck of the woods (but a search of THR will return dozens of hits).

Greetings Checkmate.

The upgrades that you want are pretty basic, are you sure that you can't find a local smith within driving distance to mount a ghostring sight?

If you can disassemble a firearm, you can mount a sidesaddle using the existing pins on the side of the receiver.

The installation of a ghost ring rear sight will consist of lining up, drilling and tapping two holes in the top of the receiver. The front sight installation on the barrel will consist of either glueing (which I think is fine) or can be silver soldered on (which is stronger then glueing)

Which ghost ring sights did you buy? and whats this gun smith charging you? Gosh I sound like your mother right about now.. lol :neener:

I planned on shipping it to Wilson Combat for a Trak-Lock 2 ghost with tritium front for $140 installed, that's a $25 installation charge. He will mount the sidesaddle for less than $5. Does that seem fair?

$140? + $5 + shipping there and back right? so say $40-$50 more so total being $185-$195

Check it out, Wilson combat trak-lock ghost ring night sights are the same exact thing as Trijicon's. Wilson just puts their name on them and boosts the price up.

Looks like they are out of stock here but you may want to call http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=109166&t=11082005

Id do a search for local gun smiths in your area to get those ghost rings installed.

Also, you may be happy with the side saddle you already have but this is the best you can buy. http://www.mesatactical.com/index.php?id=56
