View Full Version : IWB: Has Anyone Else Had This Problem?

I have long legs, long arms, and a short torso. I was practicing a few IWB draws tonight with the weapon in the 4 o'clock position -- but it was VERY awkward for me. When I stand normally, my fingers extend about a foot-and-a-half below my waistband. For me to have to reach up so high to draw the weapon seems very inefficient. (I feel like I would need to take yoga for a year just for my draw to feel somewhat normal).

Is this a common thing? Does anyone else have this "problem"? Any ideas as to what can be done about it? :banghead:

Long arms and short torso here, too. The only IWB I have used comfortably has a bit less angle than typical, and I wore it just behind the point of the hip, as close to 0300 as possible. This was with a Colt 1911, not a short pistol. Using a shorter pistol helps, of course. The rig is a G. Wm. Davis, I believe it was called the Security model, but am not sure. Mr. Davis is no longer making holsters, but it resembles a Sparks Summer Special, with less of an angle, being more vertical.

You might try a cross draw. If you're right handed, try not putting the gun in your waist band on your right side, put it facing backwards on your left side and cross your arm over to your left side to draw the pistol. That extra distance will take up some of the extra reach your arms are capable of and will keep your arm lower and in the normal range of motion.

When I assume a normal stance my elbow is even with my waist. I carry IWB/OB at 4 o'clock and like a lot of cant.

I have the exact same problem - long arms; short torso - IWB draw is pretty awkward for me but I consider it a compromise for concealability over a quick draw.
