Is anybody selling surplus components for 7.62x39? It is my understanding that they use a .311 bullet and not a .308. I've never seen anywhere that surplus brass or bullets are for sale and would appreciate any input.

I have a Mini30 I load for, I've never found any 'surplus' components to load, but one site had a listing for (out of stock) IMI components. the bore in mine is .310 but it does OK w/some .308 pills. I tryed some .311 125 gr (for 303 Brit) with just fair results. it does better w/.310 slugs, some of them very good. Hornady does make a .310 123 gr. slug, I bought 500 from Graf's (IIRC) and they do fine. wish there was a .310 150 gr. made but unable to locate any. my M30 seems to like 150 gr. slugs, Sierra and Speer I've used. (.308's, but POI is different than the .310 123 grs)
best results have been with Lapua catridges (123 gr.) I got off auctionarms. a little pricey and they are FMJ but wow they shoot great.
I've shot both 123 gr. .310 Win and Rem slugs I loaded with good results also. I filled a doe tag using the Win and it came apart but the big doe was dead after 3-4 leaps nonetheless.

The only military surplus 7.62x39 you might find would most likely be steel case, Berdan primed Russian or com-block stuff.

It is not reloadable, so it is not offered for sale.

You want find surplus components for the 7.62 x 39 mm Rds. like you will say the 30-06 or .308 or .223 however there are plenty of available new Mfg. components to fill your needs. One thing to consider is the Hazmat fees on powder and primers if you can buy those at a local gun shop you will save yourself $20. Powder Vally will ship powder and primers together plus the powders are cheaper they sell other components also I try and buy all my components at one place to save on shipping charges but sometimes that not possible. I use the CCI Mil Spec primes because of the floating firing pins in my SKS rifles.

Have not seen surplus components but have cans range pickup Winchester brass that were left on the range. Bullets can be purchased from most reloading suppliers.

If you use a public range you may find a good quantity of Winchester or Rem. Peters brass in 7.62x39 laying around.

Thanks guys for all of the info. I reload on a LNL AP. I already load 30/06 but didn't know if anyone carried pulled bullets and such like they do for 223, 308 or 30/06. I have a feeling I'll end up going the "gag, cough, cough" Wolf route on the 7.62x39 because I'm sure I can buy Wolf for what I'd have in components if I reloaded it. I may do a few hundred sng's to see what kind of accuracy I can get out of it. I just have a cheap WASR 10. It is my 3rd rifle in the go to line up and will probably be the 4th before long. I'm sure the Wolf won't be very accurate but ak's aren't known for their accuracy anyway. Have any of you guys shot any of the silver bear ammo out there? I can get it for $180 per thousand. Thanks again for your help.

I've always found Silver Bear to be decent ammo, if a bit dirty. I especially like their 9mm Mak 95 gr JHP

If I were buying canned ammo Wolf would be on the bottom of the list, out of all the Russian ammo brands it has had allot of QC problems. Golden Tiger would be on my list first, followed by Barnaul or Brown or Silver Bear one.
