Why own certain types of firearms? Because we want to. It's as simple as that.
In America, the only prerequisites to ownership are desire to own and funds to purchase. Justification is not required. It's a beautiful thing.

I like to keep my guns chambered in common calibers (no 5.7FN for me) that can be had relatively cheaply(I don't reload yet). I also don't need (may want) anything that is completely impractical, i.e. 50 BMG, GE minigun, etc. I don't really have specific guns that I wouldn't buy, just broad ideas.

I would welcome anyone to give me a gun (General if you get a minigun send it to me :D )
But there are several I would not buy:
Robinson XCR
Chey-Tec
Those high quaility hunting rifles (H&H etc) although I might want to get one just to SBS it.
and the infamous Bobcat Weapons.

guns are awesome, but alot of them are painfully expensive. The most expensive I'd personally go is about $500 (something like an AK-47 M70 Yugo), since I shoot for fun. Ammo price is also important.
I'm most definitely not looking for a shotgun for hobby due to the painful price on 12ga. ammo and because I dont hunt, but one for HD would be nice. Anything over $500 unless its a quality semi-auto and conventional handgun is pretty much not for me. Things like high-cal rifles, NFA items, ext-barreled SMGs, high-end magnums/Desert Eagles, Colts, AR15s, etc. = not enticing enough for me to fork over that much money, at least not at this point.

Anything made by Jennings, Bryco, Lorcin or Standard Arms.
I would not own any thing that had the words High Point on it.
Hi Points aren't bad guns. Nothing fancy, pretty, or uber tacticool about them, that's for sure though. I have a 9mm carbine and my buddy has a 9mm pistol and they are reliable and accurate guns. To each his own.

Anything covered with engraving, unless it had some particular sentimental or artistic value.
Anything unreliable.
I also have very little use for a long-barreled shotgun, as I don't hunt and I don't shoot skeet or trap.

I have no desire to own guns in odd but "excellent" calibers. I'll stick with the common ones, .30-06, .308, .22, 7.62x39, 9mm, .45, ETC. .45/70 is as exotic as I get.

As far as I'm aware, there isn't a gun yet made that I wouldn't like to own or shoot. My only limitation is gun safe space & money so I have a tendancy to add to my collection based on what I most want to add next that is within my budget.

Very few I would refuse to own, but many I'd never buy. I limit myself to shooters, so commemoratives, fancily engraved pieces, esoteric calibers I can't afford, etc., won't find a home in my safe.
There are also some that I just don't see the point to. For example, a Ruger Redhawk in .357 mag. The frame seems waaaay too big and over designed for that caliber. No "coolness" factor for me there, despite the fact that I like Ruger DA revolvers.

There are few-- if any-- that I would not want to own. There are MANY that I would not pay money for, but if you gave them to me....
I have a love for firearms that was instilled in me practically from birth. Even one that I would not purchase (and some that I would) would still have a
"display" or "trivia" quality to them.
But there are PLENTY that have been made that I'd NEVER be willing to shoot.

Not to cause an uproar or anything...but any Glock. I simply don't like them. They may be the best thing since sliced bread to many folks...but I don't like the way they look, feel, or point, therefore, I don't see any reason to own one.

Glocks and Ruger Center fires. Don't get me wrong, I would take either if you offered them to me. The Glocks would make good trade fodder and the Rugers wouldn't be too bad as truck guns, but I will never spend money on either of them again.

I agree.
I also don't like the unsupported chamber in Glocks. That alone gives me the Hee-Bee Jee-Bees and is the #1 reason I will never own one. For some reason I like my fingers where they are.
I would not own any thing that had the words High Point on it.
I would also never own anything with the words High Point on it either. Sounds like a cheap Chinese Cheech and Chong stoner's knock-off version of the American made Hi-Point. :p I would however own the American made Hi-Point - and do!

I would not turn down a free gun, even if it didn't work and all it was useful for was turning into a prop. I'd probably draw the line if it were falling to pieces, though, unless their was a gun buyback program going on in the neighborhood. ;)
However, there are a lot of guns I wouldn't waste my money on (Tec 9's, Lorcins, etc, for example) and a lot I simply couldn't afford to run.

I'm amazed that we're, what? 50 posts into this thread & no ones brought up Llama. I actually can think of a couple of reasons to own one. First, police buy back programs. Second, if Hillary ever gets her gun ban groove on I won't feel too bad giving up my Llama

I really don't like the looks of some of the .22LR revolvers.
Most of the older (1950's-1980's) revolvers i generally don't like at all I think that they're just flat out ugly, but I'm a huge fan of the pre-1900 revolvers.. go figure. Not that theres anything wrong with them, I just don't prefer them at all..
Eh.. maybe that will change in the future.

Honestly, I cant imagine a gun exists that I'd turn down if offered it for free (even if it was on condition I could never sell it, trade it, or give it away), so in that sense, theres none I wouldn't OWN.As for what I would never BUY? I suppose I'd never pay for an RG, based on the one I inherited, and what I have heard from anyone else who ever owned one.Wouldnt buy a single shot anything, unless it was maybe a .50 BMB (even then, I 'd HIGHLY prefer one that had a mag of some sort, but I'd take single shot if it was a smokin deal, or all I could ever hope to afford) or was a serious competion target rifle (if I ever got into that, which is fairly unlikely). Also would probly never get anything chambered in a wildcat that ammo wasnt commercially loaded for, and it involved me cutting/trimming/reforming my own brass from the cases of something else (just seems like a lot of expense for the custom gun, plus all the extra handloading steps, when ther is a common commercial caliber that will be close enough for any need I"M likely to ever have.)

There are many guns I wouldn't want to own. I don't like engraved guns, shiny/nickle plated guns, Desert Eagle, things like this http://i34.servimg.com/u/f34/11/50/35/28/open210.jpg (http://www.servimg.com/image_preview.php?i=81&u=11503528)

revolvers with longer than 6" barrels and more than .44/.45 caliber (I don't hunt and am no "recoil-junky"), Derringers, ect.
I'm very firearms-intolerant :D
Oh I forgot, I also don't like pistols with exposed barrels / no slide (I don't know how else to describe them) like the Luger or P38. There really are a lot of guns I don't like, I never thought about this before:uhoh::D

Just absolutely wouldn't own? None. Wouldn't buy? Lots. I'm not much interested in military arms. I've shot plenty of them... most did very well, they just don't trip my trigger. Don't care much for hand-cannons either... esp handguns that fire rifle cartridges (except for .22). I guess I 'don't get' the concept.
