Picking up the DE .44 this weekend. Thanks for the earlier advice.
Is there an upper limit on what one can put in it? I know that Buffalo and some guys make some serious stuff. Is it OK for a DE?
What is the max that any of you have put through one?
Preferred ammo?
Thanks,

I don't have a specific pressure that a DE chamber can handle, but this info. may help.
I have Desert Eagle Mark XIX and I use pretty hot factory hunting ammo from Winchester for hunting. DE has the thickest chamber wall for any 44mag auto and much thicker than any wheel gun out there including the Casull revolver if I am not mistaken. Anything that a high end 44mag revolver can handle, your DE should be fine.
Your DE wouldn't cycle w/ mild or wimpy load, Magnum Research recommends using full power 44mag ammo to make the DE function reliable due to its gas piston recoil system.
Now, if you custom load very hot and pressure is way above what the 44mag was designed for, then I'll be careful on that.
I rememmber reading a couple of reloader books, and their very hot .44mag load specs were recommended only to be shot in Desert Eagles & Ruger RedHawk & SuperRedHawk. :) Now we all know Ruger Redhawks are known to be built like tanks, I say DE is a bigger tank ;)
Recommended load:
I have taken good size Texas hogs w/ factory Winchester 250gr Partition Gold HP.

Use powerful .44 mag and DO NOT shoot lead bullets through your DE.
I'd like to have a hard chromed or nickel DE in .50AE someday. Almost at $1 a shot though....

Preferred ammo?
In mine, I like:
Federal 180gr JHP
Federal 240gr Hydra-Shok
American Eagle 240gr JHP
Hornady 300gr XTP-JHP
Of these, the 180gr Federal seems to have the sharpest recoil. It's a real screamer: factory ballistics from a 6.5" barrel (.5" longer than the DE) are 1610 fps/1035 ft-lbs.

wondernine, the mk XIX has interchangable parts, so you can swap out the 50 barrell for a .44 and practice with cheaper ammo.
Keep your DE clean. I've had cycling problems with rental guns that haven't been cleaned for a while. Keep the DE clean, and fire the heaviest loads you want.

My 1984-vintage .357 DE hasn't seen one yet. :D
On the other hand, my buddy's .44 DE had to go back and have a new bolt installed. He was toying with 300gr loads on top of copious amounts of H-110, and managed to open up the headspace. Note: Those loads were well over what the books say for their "do not exceed" data.
One thing I do notice about the big Israeli gun, if there's excess gas, it's gonna come back at you from the exhaust port near the muzzle, once the slide-mounted gas piston gets the required impulse. Makes for a dirty gun. ;)
