I'm looking into getting a nice nylon belt, but everything I seem to find is either super cheap, super thin, or has velcro.

I don't want to be that tactical, I simply want to do alot of hiking with a 1 1/2" nylon belt instead of my leather belt on.

anyone have ideas?

The standard US military "BDU belt" is nylon and does not have velcro. I have one. IMHO it is not the easiest belt to use (in terms of adjustment and cinching) but it fits your specifications.

The Wilderness instructor belt has velcro? Dunno.

Try getting some nylon strapping and making your own. Plan 'B' would be some seat belt material. Nylon and seat belts sew easily with either a machine or by hand.

Just got a Wilderness Instructor's belt.
It is the '5-stitch'-1.5" web belt. VERY stiff and comfortable; great gun belt.
It does have velcro for holding the loose end of the belt in place, but uses a very secure metal buckle for cinching w/ fine/infinite adjustment possible.

These are sold as SIZED belts and NOT just some generic S,M, or L size.
I will be using for carry of a CZ40B w/ a Highnoon Topless holster when in casual attire (ie: loose fitting/untucked shirt).
Feels VERY good so far.
Thumbs up on the Highnoon holster BTW.

I just picked up one of Galco's instructor belts, and it's great. As with the Wilderness one, the only velcro is there to hold down the loose flap of the belt. The buckle is a hefty metal job.
