I had a squib today, I got the bullet out and removed the remaining ammo. I can close the cylinder to the stop, but the release lever does not go home and therefore the clylinder does not lock in place and I can't cock the hammer. If I monkey with it the hammer will cock with the side trigger plate removed. I looked inside and everything seems fine. I posted this elsewhere but I want to get as much exposure as I can. Thank you.

exactly where in northwest Illinois are you located? I only know of one gunsmith, at D&J guns in lakemoore, right out side of McHenry, but i dont like him very much. he might be okay, but he talks a lot off BULL, and he screwed my rifle up when i took it there.
i would call GAT guns (Carpentersville) and see if they repair guns, or if they would know someone who could.

G.A.T. is a Smith and Wesson Stocking Dealer and has a gunsmith on site. They are going to have a factory shoot the last weekend of the month, Feb 23rd-24th. During this weekend event, they will have a Smith and Wesson Gunsmith on site from the performance center. For a $20.00 donation, the smith will take appart, clean, inspect, stone the action, lubricate it, and whatever else it needs. My recomendation would be to take your revolver to him. I'll be taking another one to him the year as well. Over the last 3 years, he has preformed this action job service on 4 of my revolvers. One revolver he replaced the firing pin with a longer versions to get reliable primer hits, (625). Well worth it, and the gun never leaves my sight...
This is where I'd start www.gatguns.com
