My father found this wrapped up in some of my grandfather's things. He asked to take these photos and ask you guys if you think it's real or fake. I think it is fake for two reasons. It has stamped on the blade "sometown Germany." If it was made in Germany for the German public, it wouldn't be stamped with Germany in English. Second, the blades appears to be stainless steel, which I think would be very unlikely for that time and place.

Yes, it's a fake. Those were produced well after the war. Yours might actually have been produced in Germany; the ones I've seen were made in Asia in the 70's and 80's. Other than possible use as a pocket knife, if you don't mind the imagery, they are of no value.

Is the "sometown" in question "Solingen" by any chance?
If so, then I would say it's actually made in Germany, and yes, like Joe said, it's post-war.
If it's "memorabilia" then, as Joe said, it's worthless.
If it's a "keepsake" (hey, it was my grandpa's knife), then its value is a function of your appreciation of Grandpa and his values.
If it's "for the cause" then its worth is based on your valuation of "the cause."
In my world it would be worse than useless, since the only value "the cause" serves for me is as one of history's really bad examples.
If it were mine, I'd either keep it in a case labeled "Badly Conceived Historical Idolatry" or I'd dispose of it. I wouldn't want that to turn up in a review of my estate.

Thanks guys. "Solingen" seems like the town. My father has the knife and I couldn't remember what town it was. Personally, I'd toss it because, honestly, who would want to praise Hitler like that.

It could have very well been stainless steel during WWII.
Germany was making fine tableware with "rostfrei" steel during WWII.
I have a natzi officers "rostfrei" marked table knife in my collection.
