Great "zombie" thread! I've not finished reading the whole thing yet, but will. In the interim, I'll add a couple:

1. Chickadee landed on the bill of my hat during archery season (full camo) and hung over the edge looking at my face trying to figure out what I was.

2. Also during archery season, a grey squirrel ran between my legs while I was standing on top of a stone wall. Had fox squirrel jump on my backpack that was on the ground at my feet just last week.

3. Saw a hawk (Redtail?) kill a squirrel right in front of my tree stand. My father-in-law had to throw up his hand to ward off a hawk that seems to have targeted his eye movement, again during archery season when he was wearing full camo (I didn't see this one).

4. Saw a grey squirrel fall out of a tree! He was 40 feet up or so on a cold, windy day. Jumped for a branch on another tree just as a gust blew the branch out of his reach. 40 feet is a long way to fall, even for a squirrel. He was dazed for a while, but eventually seemed to recover and stagger off on his merry way.

5. Set up too close to a turkey roost one Fall, and when I started calling, they came down all around me! A couple looked like they were going to run right into me before peeling off.

6. Scarriest: seeing some guy using his shotgun scope to check me out! I waved (vehemently) and he dropped the muzzle and gave an apologetic wave back. This was NOT during archery season, obviously, and I was wearing a blaze orange jacket. And this was on private land where I had permission to hunt, and the offender did not. Moron.

During Thanksgiving break, while out in the woods (the day I killed my first buck of the season), I had a squirrel hop around under my ladder-stand for a bit. All of a sudden, I feel the stand beneath me shake. The squirrel was climbing up the stand. It got to about my knees before it decided it didn't want to find out what I was.

I watched a fox squirrel playing on the ground walk right under a hawk about 10ft off the ground on a limb. I just knew he was gonna pounce on him but he never did. He just sat there and watched the squirrel. I was in a stand about 30yds away.

For sure......If you are pointing a gun at me you better be two things.....Great aim, and a darn good shot. One way or another you will SEE/FEEL the error in you ways.

Pity you didn't use his scope to check him out....rectally.Yeah, I've replayed that incident mentally any number of times. Distance was too great to communicate verbally. He was only a few yards onto the property, and by the time I could get down from my stand and get over to where he was standing, I'm sure he would have been long gone. He disappeared right away, anyway. I'm still here, so I'm sure he wasn't drawing down on me with malice. Had I not looked in his direction, he could have scoped me out and disappeared without my ever seeing him. Just chance that I was looking in that direction. Still makes my skin crawl remembering it.

Once saw a large bobcat take down a smallish deer. I've always respected cats for their hunting ability, but after seeing that my respect has improved two fold.

I too spent some time in the crosshairs about twelve years ago. I was in a blind when I saw a pickup slowly come down the road about a quarter mile in front of me. He stopped for a bit, tooted the horn then went on. Strange. A little while later his partner came out of the woods a few hundred yards to my right. I looked at him through the binoculars and he looked at me through his scope. It felt like a punch to the stomach when I saw him raise his gun. He then continued on to the road and after a few minutes his buddy in the truck picked him up. Those two probably “hunt” by walking across people’s farms all day long.

I strange thing I saw once was a pile on skinned carcasses most with on head of feet. After digging through the pile I found two with a foot still attached. The feet were that of dogs with just a little black and white fur at the edge of the two paws.

While hunting years ago we came up to the top of a mountain and found a small cessna wrecked you could see where it had hit the trees and cleared out a path to where it hit the ground.
One time while working on a repeater site on top of a mountain I looked out the door and saw a small buck walking around,watched him for a few minutes had to go to the truck for a tool and he just stayed there then started walking towards me i stood still and he came right up to me started sniffing me i put my hand out and started petting him. I got some crackers out of the truck and hand fed him.I guess he was someones pet they had let go and wasn't afraid of people.

when i was 14 and yearling deer was walking around underneath my stand for about half and hour and i had to piss...well i had a moving traget :D and at first he didn't know what was going on and then suddenly decided to drop the clutch in 3rd

Why in the world would you intentionally wound ANY critter????.......then you have the balls to brag about it. Thats not THE HIGH ROAD if you ask me.

jesus mother teresa it was a pocket knife...he gets worse wounds running through saw briars than he did from that knife and it was a whole lot better for his day than me shooting him

As I said........Your intentions were to WOUND.....cut.....hurt.....NOT kill.

You do it your way but I am willing to bet that you wont find many ppl that will agree with you. Gettin cut on thorns and briars is a natural thing. Walking around with a knife wound is not. The way I see it that you caused that buck pain that he would not have had if you would not have stuck him with your knife. Drop a stick, acorn, or a piece of bark, no harm no foul. But a knife????? Come on now, thats just cruel.
