Info: Colt Commander 30 Luger?

Ok, all you 1911 experts out there. I have a commander barrel in 30 Luger and would like to know who made it, when, why, how many and anything else I can learn. The barrel hood is clearly marked "CAL 30 LUGER" and it works in my Colt 9mm Light Weight Combat Commander.

Stumped,
Rich

Post over at: http://www.1911forum.com/forums/ All they do is the 1911.

Colt has made 1911's in 30 Luger for overseas contracts/export.

I'd bet you it was made for the Greman commercial market.

Moving this thread to Autopistols.

Standard-looking, blue Colt Commander, marked ".30 Luger" on the slide.

I didn't think to look to see if the magazine was so marked, or if it was the "standard" 9mm Luger mag. If you install it in a Commander, it should work fine with the 9mm mag and recoil springs.

Story I got was that these were made specifically for the Italian market. I believe they are mentioned in the Sutherland & Wilson Book of Colt Firearms but don't recall it they state the intended market.

Best,
Johnny
