I stopped to visit a neighbor today, on the way home form work. He said the other day he was moving, and I wanted to chat some. As I helped him move some things in his garage, he asked if I still did some shotgunning. I told him I did, and he gifted me with 6 cases of Remington Blue rock skeet targets, and a nice Trius thower.

As we loaded the stuff into the bed of my pick up, he asked if I would be interested in an older Remington 1100. I said sure and he brought out a beautiful 1100 . He said he paid $175 for it in 1973, and I could have it for $150. Needless to say, its in my gunsafe now:D

The 28 inch barrel ( modified choke) will be replaced by a new 26 inch Hastings barrel as soon as Cabelas can deliver it.

Congrats and Mazeltov. Good news indeed!

Don't dump that old barrel. Early 1100s, like early 870s are starting to get some mild collector interest. I'd also pull the old rings and springs and install new ones for PM, keeping the old ones for reinstalling.

I would shoot the heck out of it. BTW, Hastings offers an overbore, tubed, high rib, 30" trap barrel for the 1100. Shotgun Sports has an article on one. Of course they also sell that very item directly. This, with appropriate choke tubes, would make a very long lived clays gun with tons of aftermarkets goodies for them what wants 'em.

Now BA/UU/R....

Dave,

My neighbor said he bought the 1100 to shoot skeet. He went twice, and put it all away. I don't think the shotgun has been fired in almost 30 years. There is some slight surface rust, not a lot, but the wood is perfect. I never discard barrels, in fact I have a box full in the closet. :p

Lube those rusty areas with SLIP, CLP etc, and rub lightly with a Scotchbrite pad, old panty hose, or VERY lightly with 4/0 steel wool. Might clean up well.

Sounds like you've a new 1100, 30 years old. Makes me a little envious...

As for old barrels, happen to have an 870 barrel, either Cylinder or Skeet, and at least 23" long? PGC has this silly rule....
