Rhetoric: It's not a buy-back -- it's a laundry!

I don't like the term "gun buy-back" for all the reasons that it get trashed around here. The phrase that just occurred to me is "gun laundering," parallel to "money laundering."
No questions asked, money / goodies in exchange, and destruction of important evidence -- come on down to the City Gun Laundry! We give *you* the quarters!
Perhaps a good antidote would be to advertise the "Guntiques Road Show," where anyone in line for a gun laundry would be offered the chance to have the gun they don't want appraised, instead.

EDIT: Durn, can't edit the title, and I somehow posted this rather than previewed. That title *was* "Rhetoric: It's not a buy-back -- it's a laundry."
EDIT 2: Hey! It looks like someone helped me out by editing the title -- thanks.

funny thing right wrong or indiffrent a friend and I sat in a parking lot at a "gun buy" and scoped out for something we might want. I was prepared to offer cash at double the rate instead of the $50-$100 gift cards to walmart

Yeah..."Gun Laundry" is a pretty darn good description.
There was one of those *&*&*&* "Buy-back" things here in Greater Cleveland a few months back.
I saw the video on local tv station about the thing..from what I saw in the quick video..a 3-screw Old model Blackhawk, Colt Trooper or Lawman, couldn't tell for sure, a couple of 1911's, and a lot of the real cheapy autos.
Long guns...I was crying when I saw what some of those were..US Rifle Cal .30 M1, US Carbine Cal .30 Carbine M1, and what looked like a "Sweet 16" Browning A5.
Station a couple of weeks later had a video of what was supposedly those getting dumped in the steel furnace...Looked like 'newsroom stock footage' of steel mill operations. When I called the station to ask if that was really the video of those guns being melted down, and did they have the list of guns turned in they hung up on me. (Station had at least in part sponsored that foolishness)
I despise the "News Media" here....

I despise the "News Media" here.... Only the Cleveland news media? I despise them all.
Eric, did you come away with anything good?
Where I live, there have never been any buybacks. There was a sort of gun buyback involving a high ranking local official. My friend bought an AK from our mayor last year. He put the money toward a new Benelli turkey gun. Living in Central Podunkia is great.

Well consider what happens when you buy a gun. No one asks or expects the dealer to know the history of the guns he's selling. You pay the money, take the gun, and go about your merry way. I'll bet very few guns used in crime turns up in these programs. I mean why take the chance of having the gun out in public? Just wipe it down good to remove your prints and toss it. It's no longer linked to you.
