Well it's easier than building a house, but why? You can buy perfectly good Savage that will shoot bug holes right off the rack? Is this just for the experience of building your own or are you trying to save money or what?

FWIW with the screw on barrel lug it is actually quite easy to set the headspace - it is much harder with other systems so in the big picture of it all putting a Savage all together is simpler than say building a Remington from parts.

If you can change the oil in your car, you can do about anything to a Savage. A barrel change takes about 20 minutes. But unless you want an odd caliber (like my 223AI, 6.5x47 Lapua, or 338-06), you probably should just buy someting factory. You've got to have something to build off of anyway.

The Savage is just about the easiest rifle to work on that I know of. I have 2 Savage 110's one is factory(except for a Rifle Basix trigger), The other one is an ongoing project of mine, currently in 35 Whelen with a new trigger, recoil lug, bolt head, bolt handle, etc...I will be glass and pillar bedding it soon, and then I will put my new Ziess 3-9X40 on it :)
