Single caliber or one of each

Has anybody sold or traded away guns to get to single caliber ownership. example; S&W 940, G19, Springfield 1911 in 9mm. Or has anybody changed from single caliber only to one of each. example S&W 42, sig229, govt mod1911

Please support your reasoning behind either your single mindedness or multi-caliberness (new word???)

I like to have as many calibers as possible, but buy as opposed to trade/sell to achieve that. I've got a firearm-selling phobia... I just know I'd kick myself after a sale, so why risk it.
With this philosophy, you can imagine rapid collection growth, but that's a good thing as well, think "investment". Snowdog has more firearms than he is old, but that's a good thing!

I have sold off a couple calibers & have down sized what I have. It's just more economical & convenient.

I've sold away my .40 because I had no use for the round. My 1911 and USP45 are gone, and I just shoot and carry 9mm.

I have a few calibers, and get as many guns in those as possible. I only use
.38sp / .357Mag
9mm
.45ACP

One of these days I may get a single .44Mag just to have one, but I can't imagine shooting it much. I wince too much with .357Mag as it is. I don't own any .380, .22 or anything wimpy.

With those basic calibers, in the event of a holocaust/End of days/Mad Max scenario, I should be able to find ammunitition for my guns.

I would want at least two calibers. One suitable for self defence (9mm, .45 ACP, .40 S&W) and a .22 LR for cheap practice (& when the mice are knocking at the gates).

Since I use my pistols for primarily recretional reason, all my pistols are 9mm. Cheap ammo, availability, gun variety and shootability makes it a good and logical choice.

Personally, at one time I had a 357, 44, and 45ACP to feed. This was not a bad deal, but changing the primer system on the Dillon became a mitigating factor for change. The 357 went down the road. Then over time I swapped N frames 629 for a 625 (Model of 1988). This was a good thing, as now there was only 45ACP's to load and keep track of. Well, both ate the same thing. The Gold Cup and 625 shared the same meal. This was the end of a logistical nightmare. Only one primer and one powder and one bullet. Pretty much a no-brainer! And, I have stuck to that same line of thinking. Till earlier this spring when a 22.250 turned into a 357. Well, the 357 was fun to plink with, but well there was the primer deal, again. Well, I know that some may think that is a cop out, but for ease of things it is just down right practica. The only real changes are the 1911 variant turned into a 220. That sort of evolved into a 4506; it in turn was turned into a 1911, again. Well, then as time wore on, the 1911 turned into a USP. So, I have 625's and USP's. They do not share the same meal, but the same bullet style. The 625 eats LRN's, and the USP's get plated RN's.
Not to much to compromise on. A few twists to the powder charge bar and the Dillon is set to make breakfast, lunch, and supper.

For me, I do not need any thing overly powerful, such as a 44 or anything stronger then the 45ACP.

I like too many guns to stick to one caliber! I mostly shoot 9mm and 22lr, though.

I tried being faithful to one caliber (.357) but the temptation was more than I could bear. I have 9mm,.40S&W, .44Mag, .45 ACP, .38 Spl, .22lr,and a .223 Contender. I have a good union job, my house is paid for, and my son is on his own. I can afford toys so I buy what I want.

My first handgun was a 357 Magnum revolver. For a while I thought this was the only caliber I would ever need. The economics forced me to buy a 22 LR. Then I was smitten by the 9mm, hey, it was the 1980's and this was THE caliber and if you didn't have a 9 you were behind the times! Then I was awe struck by the 45 ACP. Then along came that hot new caliber called 10mm. Finally, I got tired of hotrodding 357's and bought a couple of 44 Magnums. Now I have something for nearly any occasion and I cannot foresee the deletion of any caliber. I like them all!!!!

Besides the .22lr, I stuck with the same formula for years....only buy NATO and domestic/foreign military calibers (9x19, 45acp, 5.56, 7.62x51, 7.62x39, 9x18, etc).

You mean standardize your calibres? Geezuz, no. It's the handgun I look at, not what it shoots. Having just one calibre would be terrible boring. That'd be like having a wife.

I've really basically downsized my pistol calibers from several to just the 9mm, except for one .357 which I still have. I have that one caliber zen thing going. It's nice to be able to buy one type of ammo that works in all of your guns and doesn't break the bank when you buy a case or three of it...

However I have to admit. It's starting to get A BIT BORING!

Lately I've found myself looking with longing at .45's, 10mm's and .357SIG's, but with the current AWB and because of the lack of platforms that I like for the .357SIG that hold 15 rounds or more, I've been looking at the 1911's alot recently.

My original goal when I began shooting, about 20 years ago, was to have a fine example of a gun in each major caliber. I pretty much accomplished that and have more than one in .38, .380, .357, 9mm, 40S&W, .45 and .44 mag. I have found that over the years I have settled on the .38's and 9mm's as my calibers of choice simply because I find them the most enjoyable to shoot and like the platforms they are launched from.

I would have to say that I am a combination of the two.

Calibers include: .22, .25, .32, .380, 9mm, .38 Spec, .357 Mag, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, 10mm, .41 Mag, .44 Mag, .45 ACP

Of those, I only own one example in each of .38 Spec, 10mm, and .41 Mag, but many of each of the others.

For me I can never have enough handguns or rifles in 22lr! No reloading , cheap to shoot , low noise and accurate.

But there are times when it is just plain fun to bring out the big boomers and make a little more noise! For handguns I have settled on 357 Mag/38 Special , 44 mag and 45 ACP. Have a 9mm only because of the Sig P239 - like the size of the pistol and the 9mm cartridge seems a perfect match for this compact pistol. Owned a few Walther .380 autos at one time.

The 22lr along with the above mentioned cartridges are all I will probably ever own in a conventional handgun. The 357 is the only centerfire handgun where I have more than one handgun in a particular caliber.

I went through this caliber consolidation phase once and stupidly got rid of a Model 13. So yeah, I did it!

I'm pretty diverse right now, although the lack of a 9 or a 40 in my brace of handguns is noticeable. Thing is, I don't want any of the current semi autos. I'm happy with my Colt S-80 and my German Mak.

My rifles are both in 5.56X45 though.

Some things you just need a .22 for. I never thought I'd want a .44 until I found my self 15 feet away from a cow elk with nothing but a .22 on my hip. Never thought I'd want another auto after my first .45.

Now get the hell out there and buy some more guns. One apiece in a caliber ain't enough.
In some calibers I own a dozen to as many as two dozen handguns, and in each of those particular calibers there are some others I need.

for handguns, i have 3 9mm's, 1 .40, 1 7.62x25, 1 .22lr, 1 .45acp.

i never thought i'd ever want to sell any of my guns, but i'm seriously thinking about selling the 9mm's and the .40; they rarely get shot anymore, i'm in love with the kimber right now. i'll keep the cz52, thats a unique round.

the 9mm pistols that have my attention are the h&k p7, and the steyr gb. i do like the walther p99, i wouldnt mind having that in .40s&w.
i'd like to get more 1911's, maybe a stock colt, something truly basic, no frills, bells, or whistles.

I have a Smith Model 27 Revolver that I usually shoot .38 Spls with. A Sig P228 in 9mm and a CZ 75B in .40S&W. If I had to choose one of those calibers, and one of those guns, it would be the Sig P228, although I like them all.

For my range guns, I'm sticking with 45acp which I reload. I don't reload 32acp or 38spcl because I buy in bulk and don't shoot them much.

I've tried to standardize on calibers, just because it's easier to keep track of everything. But that doesn't seem to last for long......
