I tried to do a search, but this forum won't accept PB as a term. So the deal is that my old buddy gave me a pound of PB powder he never used. I am looking for suggestions on what pistol loading might be suitable in this powder. I load for 9mm, 38/357, and 45ACP mostly. From looking at the Hodgdon site, 38 special might be my best bet?

Dupont PB would work well for all calibers you mentioned. It's a bit slower than most shotgun powders used for pistol. Dupont 4756 is another one that is about the same burn rate.
It burns clean and meters well because of it's fine, small flake granulation.

Hodgdon should be able to provide data for loading your shells.

I would say you are better off using it in your .38 Special and .45 Auto rounds. Clays and W231 both work very well for those rounds and PB falls between the two on the burn rate chart.

If you do use it the 9mm be careful. Since it's a fast powder you might get a pressure spike in a small case like the 9mm when you get near the Max charge, though I could be wrong. (and often am LOL)

PB load data as follows from IMR handloaders Guide:

9mm-Rem case & primer-115 gr JHP, 1.110" cart OAL, 4.8 grs/PB max @1075 fps and 32500psi cup.
124 gr mc @1.135 oal 4.9 grs/PB for 1050 fps and 32500 cup.
147 gr. BTHP/XTP oal 1.130, 4.0grs./PB for 950 fps and 32800 cup.

.45acp--Again both Rem case and primer(Rem 2 1/2)

200 LSWC- 5.1 grs PB 770 fps and 11900 psi cup (target load)
Max 5.9 grs PB 885 fps and 17900 psi cup

If you have a specific bullet weight in a specific caliber pm me and if it's listed I'll give it to you. I'm not much of a typist and there are PB loads for all the pistol calibers so I'm not going to list them all. Nick

Thanks guys. I have some 200 grain plated 45s that I thought I would try first. Nick must have been reading my mind with that target load. I probably will try some 36 Specials too later on.
