CZ-52 range report

This is first of all a FUN handgun! Shooting this is a real blast---literally! The muzzle blast and report of this round will sure wake you up! No failure to function of any kind. Had a couple rounds of ammo that had hard primers, but this was the ammo's fault. Accuracy is surprising. With better ammo, I look to be even more impressed. Minute of soda can at 50 yards. I didn't paper target test as I'm going to get some Sellier & Bellot for that. This round has some serious penetrating power. This thing goes right through things other pistol rounds flatten out and fall down in front of with just a small dent. Very satisfying. The penetrating power is almost like a rifle. The ejected cases fly to the rear and to your right a good 15 feet! That's something I really like about Soviet/Warsaw Pact weapons is that they don't fool around when it comes to extraction and ejecting. My AK throws them 15 feet to the front and right, this pistol 15 feet to the rear. This pistol is a tank. Cleaning is nice and easy, as is disassembly.
I had two kinds of ammo. Some South African stuff and some Czech surplus. The Czech surplus was on 8 round stripper clips (handy to keep for when I get the clip-less S&B ammo), brass cased with a black primer sealing laquer and a bi-metal cupro-nickel plated bullet. The South African was brass cased, copper jacketed and my neodymium magnet tells me it's got steel in there somewhere. The South African was not as accurate as the Czech, plus the South African had some that took two strikes to set off. The Czech was great. And being cheaper, it will make great plinking ammo. But I must get some S&B so I can get a real idea of the potential of this pistol. But I just can't get over what this thing can do. This caliber goes through decent thicknesses of steel like butter. Overall, I'm very happy with this pistol.

That Czech ammo is almost certainly corrosive so clean carefully.

I got one a few months ago and the extractor pin popped out after about 120 rounds. The extractor and spring went walkabout and couldn't be found but I did find the pin. After a few weeks the gun shop made good on a replacement.
When I took the replacement pin, extractor and spring out of the package I noticed right away that the new pin was appreciably different than the original. The original was thinner and nearly a mm longer than the replacement! I don't know who put that thing in there but they deserve a few cross words. The old pin slid in and out of the hole with nearly no resistance while it took a bit of pressure to put the new one in place. I also put a drop of Lok-tite in there to help hold it in place.
I haven't had a chance to shoot it since repairs since the range is down for repairs/improvements and the other places around here won't allow the ammo I have (Serbian, with some steel in it). Another two weeks and it re-opens and I'll give it another try.
The first trip was a lot of fun, though. :D

Pumkin sized muzzle blasts... penetration that is on the level of a short barreled rifle. Cheap as dirt. All in a gun that looks really cool.
Fun shooting. Hard primers? Just thumb the hammer back.
Most of the ammo out there has hard primers because it was for SMGs and for springs 50 years younger. Buy the 52, spend a few extra bucks on new springs and a firing pin... and you have a keeper.
I fired about 900 rounds outta mine before I traded it off. Kinda wish I didn't, but I wanted a bag full of highcap mags for my Beretta. (Which still has yet to jam on me)

What?
The barrel didn't explode?
You're lying! You're flat out lying!
You're actually typing that from your hospital life support unit, using the 1 finger you have left on either hand! :D

The Czech ammo is corrosive. I shot one mag of it and decided I could get away without cleaning my gun until the next week when I was going shooting but after 3-4 days I looked down the bbl and there was brown rust. It had not pitted or anything and cleaned right off but be careful with any surplus ammo. The Czech ammo was my fav of all the ammo I have shot. No problems with it and it hits harder than the S&B stuff.
I was doing some penetration tests using the CZ-52, 9mm and .40S&W, the 9mm with FMJ has good penetration but it wouldn't penetrat the angle iron at all and the CZ-52 would punch right through it! The 9mm didn't even dent the stuff! The CZ-52 looked like it splashed through the iron, it had melted the metal on both sides! Cool!

I clean all my firearms spotless after shooting because I shoot a lot of milsurp so have gotten in the habit. Mike, LOL! No, it didn't blow up in my hand. But then, unlike some, I'm using it as it was intended, firing ammo made for it and not engaging in ham-handed attempts at re-living childhood lessons about experimenting with homemade fireworks.:D

Loud enough!:D My plans are to put on wood grips and machined firing pin from makarov.com and get more mags. And some several hundred rounds of Sellier & Bellot.
