I've always been intrigued by the Schofield top-break design, although I wondered whether my rather small hands could handle what seemed from photos to be a rather large revolver. I finally got to actually fondle one from Navy Arms at the Greensboro, NC gun show. Although the sample was a full size model with 7" barrel, I was pleased to find that I could easily reach the trigger. It was a bit front-heavy, however. So now I am thinking about getting their Wells Fargo model, which comes with a 5" barrel and is available in .38 Special. A bit pricey, but I'm still very interested. If any of you own a Navy Arms Schofield, I would greatly appreciate your comments as to its quality and accuracy.

I do not own one, but you may want to try shooting a front-heavy revolver. It helps me with accuracy.

I've had one for about a year and like it muchly. Very nicely made and shoots well. It is in 45 Colt which doesn't feel that front heavy to me. If you get a 38 version, then I'd imagine that it would be a lot heavier in the barrel with the smaller hole and all, so it might be good to go with the shorter barrel to keep the same balance.

Trigger is crisp and 3 3/4lb. I did have to pull the sideplate and lube it as the internals were pretty dry from the factory. Slick and nice shooter now.

I have no intentions of Cowboy Action gaming with it so the reputed 'frailness' doesn't bother me. Only have a few hundred rounds down it but I think one well cared for will last just fine.

I've been using a 51/2" model .45 Colt Schofield for about 5 years now for cowboy shooting. Haven't had any problems with it.

A sincere thank you to those who responded. I just purchased the 1875 Schofield Wells Fargo model, .38 Special caliber, with 5" barrel. It feels great, hope to shoot it soon when the temperature gets back up into the 50s. Mine was manufactured by Uberti and distributed by an outfit called Taylors & Co. (Their name is also stamped on the barrel.) I guess Navy Arms also distributes essentially the same gun, but I'm happy with the one my dealer obtained. Sorry I haven't had it long enough to take a photo.

i want the same type of revolver a top break 38 special but with stainless or nickle finish. i've always liked the schofields.
