Loose 1911 front site

I have a Kimber Custom 2 that has a loose stock front site. The site will slide left and right with little force and I can't figure out how to get it to stay in one spot. I've tried to figure it out, but I don't see a way to get it to stay in one spot and I don't want to risk popping the whole front site off. Any suggestions on what to do so that I can tighten up the front site?

I would send it back to Kimber and have them repair the front sight. Or if it's out of warranty, send it to Buddy Chapman in Lone Oak and have him fix it.

The gun is pretty new and I only had about 500 rounds through it...I would hate to go through the trouble of sending it all the way back to Kimber, so I may take it back to the store I bought it at and see if they can do anything.

Lurp, the sight or the dovetail are out of spec. I would suggest contacting the Kimber Service Dept. ASAP. They may possibly be able to direct you to a local 'smith who is authorized to make repairs. Be aware that if a non-authorized 'smith makes repairs to the pistol Kimber may void any other warranty on the piece.
Kimber has an excelent Customer Service Dept., and if you express ship the slide you may have it back in just a couple of days.
Might even be able to weasel a serious discount out of them for another purchase, but that takes some saber rattlin'.
Good luck. If you don't mind, please keep us posted as to the outcome of your situation.
Have a good evening.

Same thing happened to my Colt series 80 2 weeks ago. They were the original sights so I installed Trijicon night sights.

I must disagree with you Sir. For a plinker you could probably get by with this, but with either a dovetail or a stake-on sight the sight should have no play, it should be a tight friction fit. An anaerobic compound such as Loctite will provide some adhesion, but the "blue" Loctite (242) is a low strength/removeable thread locker; there are specific types of Loctite for holding close-tolerance pieces together. Check the Loctite website for specific applications.
The dovetail should provide at least .0005" interference fit, preferably more, to prevent sight movement. If this is a defensive weapon only a proper fitting sight should be installed; applying a "band-aid" measure such as Loctite is a gamble with ones life.
In a pinch a small punch can be used to distort the base of the sight to increase the friction-fit witihin the dovetail. DON"T peen the dovetail itself!!
I still suggest letting Kimber have it for a few days, but ultimately you must do what is right in your mind.
Respectfully,

Thanks for all of the replies so far, they've been a lot of help. I am still waiting for my CHL to come in the mail and I plan to use this as my primary carry gun so I prefer not to take any shortcuts. I just called kimber customer service/warranty and left them a message with my name, number and my problem. Hopefully I'll get to talk to them tomorow and can decide on the best plan of action. Thanks again for all your help.

And I thought dovetailed front sights in the 1911 were supposed to be better?:scrutiny: Clearly not in this case.
