Who out there is handloading .38 S&W and would not mind sharing their receipe? I have the reloading die and some spent brass as well as my choice of W231 or HS-6. All I need is a source for bullets. Any thoughts?

Jeff

I've been loading .38 S&W on-and-off for many years. My favorite load is 2.4 gr. of Bullseye but I've also shot 2.8 of WW 231 with success. I load with 158 gr. lead SWC bullets.

Since my .38 S&W revolvers are small and have fixed sights, I've never bothered with finding the correct .360 bullets. The common .357 bullets work well enough for me.

You can get some pretty decent accuracy with Speer's .38 swaged lead hollowbase wadcutter (seated out, not flush) and 2.4 gr. of Bullseye.

You can shoot .357 jacketed bullets no problem. .38 S&W dies will load them no problem as well. If you want to shoot lead you will need a way to stop leading with undersized .358 cast bullets (wax gas checks, Super Grex type fillers, etc) or find cast bullets suitably sized for the bore of a .38 S&W. (.362, I think, but anyway, bigger than .357)

Someone here will know where to find them. They have posted it in similar threads.

It is a fun cartridge. I used to own a S&W in .38 S&W, but sold it or traded it years ago. I now have a little top break H&R in .38 S&W. Fun little shooter. W-231 works fine.
