380 JHP White Residue???

I purchased a battle pack of 500 rounds of 380 JHP. The ammo is made by Dynamite Nobel and came from SOG. When I cut open the sealed pack and opened the first box, I noticed a white powdery residue inside the tip of the bullet. It doesn't seem to cause any problems, but it does look strange and I was wondering if anymore might know what it is??

If the hollow is exposed lead, it simply a bit of corrosion of the exposed lead. Maybe they didn't apply a lube to it. Lead will corrode until it has a white frost on it, then it stops entirely (at least that's what I've heard.) That's why bullet lubes are made of a wax or derivative. The wax seals the lead air-tight, which helps prevent leading, but also prevents/limits corrosion.

Thanks FieroCDSP... sounds logical to me and yes, the hollow is exposed lead.

FieroCDSP is right. I have some old .38 JHP rounds where the lead had changed and gotten that white "frost" Won't hurt them a bit.

Hi Marlin 45,
The website is www.southernohiogun.com, but their products and prices change every week. I bought the 380's long before the prices went through the roof. Check it out and you may see something of interest and they don't stick it to you on the shipping. Regards, Snubby 38
