Copper Solvent?

I have a Czech Mauser, and I am going to be shooting turkish ammo. I know that there is no copper in these bullets, but I might be shooting them sometime.

I am assuming that Hoppes #9 is not a copper solvent, so where do I get this stuff? I didnt see any at the local Wally-world. How much is it? How often do I need to apply this stuff (IE every time I shoot? )

thanks,

Some copper solvents are Hoppes Benchrest, Armalite Borecote and Sweet's 7.62 solvent.

One way to see if you need to use a copper solvent is put the solvent on a patch and run it through the barrel. If it comes out blue/green, you have copper fouling and should remove it.

Sweets is probably the strongest out there. I use Shooter's Choice - copper solvent version.

I use it every time I shoot my rifles and blast it out with Gunscrubber.

Don't leave copper solvent in the barrel any longer than the directions for the product. The ammonia will etch the barrel.

Those prices seem a bit high, but, you can at least get an idea.

I use Tetra Copper Remover when I need to remove copper fouling. Just remember that there is controversy regarding the use of ammonia based solvents in gun barrels. If you use a copper remover, make sure you reclean your barrel throughly with a regular solvent/bore cleaner to remove any traces of the ammonia.
I normally reclean my barrels with MPro-7 which also lifts out additional deposits from the pores in the metal.

Some of the non-copper jacket materials aren't affected too well by even copper solvents, so for these, use JB Bore paste, from Brownell's.

This is a non-embedding, non-harmful abrasive paste that removes all metal fouling. This is what the benchrest shooter's used to use.
