Going to the range tommorow with a box full of .223 and .308's and a hand full of slugs and I was trying to think of some fun stuff to shoot at. Anybody got any ideas?
thanks

Stop by walmart and pick up some of those cheapo 2-litre diet cokes. I think they go for 67 cents a piece. Those are fun to shake up and watch explode.

I usually just shoot unopened pop cans and bottles filled with water when I am looking for fun, it's cheap and there isn't much to clean up afterwards.

anything you can find, last time i went shooting it was a cinnamon aresol spray can, a lamp, lotsa cans(empty and full), a hard hat(morbid i know) among other things. before that it was a bucket full of pickles and lamp, and a squirrel that happend to present itself at the wrong time! play jazz with it, improvise, im sure youll find somethin fun to destroy! happy shooting(and safe!).ofcourse

We save our 2 litre bottles and then fill them with water when we go to the range. They're a little bulky to carry, but not so bad if you put them in a box. My daughter likes to shoot them cause their ain't no doubt when you hit one. :D

Oranges or apples if you've got a bag going bad.

One trick I picked up here a few years ago...If you've got a hard surface, put a silver dollar on it, and sit a full soda can on top. When you shoot it with the .308, the force will imprint the silver dollar on the bottom of the can. I kept one in my office for a couple ofyears.

Marshmallows, and someone had recently mentioned in another thread doing some soda cracker research. Fresh v. stale, etc.

My son and I are still looking for a way to capture a spent .308 in pristine condition. ie not all smashed up. We fired into the bottom of a log, then split it open, but the lead/copper was all twisted. The 308 blew through a phone book and didn't even slow down. The boy thinks that a bag of Hechinger's playsand might work, but I think its gonna squish or flatten the bullet. I'm thinking a 5 gallon water jug sitting horizontal, where we shoot into the bottom might work.

I'm surprised no one has said this one:

"Bowling Pins" :D

Just drop by your local bowing alley and ask for their "bad" pins. I've paid $0.50 each to nothing.

i allways test new bullets with milk jugs filled with water its also fun to put 3 or 4 of the jugs in a line to see what it takes to stop a high powered rifle
you will be suprised what it will take to stop a 308 being that flesh is 90%water milk jugs filled with water are a good test subject in my book

A few years back, A buddy and me took all of our old 8-tracks tapes and shot them up. Loads of fun shooting up but a mess of tape to pick up

Wow, if I'd have known they were that cheap, I'd have done this sooner! I guess I'll be dropping by this weekend.

Golfballs, Tennis balls, and base balls are my favorite.
Another thing I like doing is buying a cheap bag of toilet paper, dunk them in a puddle of water and lining up 3 or 4 of them and doing a little balistics research. There is a big difference between 158 gr LSWC .357, 230 gr JHP 45 auto, and 180 gr silver tip .308 I will tell you that right now.
