Hi all. I would like to do some ammo testing, particularly various hypervelocity .22LRs shot from revolvers. I've Googled like crazy and can find very little mention of how they perform with short barrels.

I have .22 revolvers with the following barrels: 2.5, 3, 6 & 12 inches. All except the 3 inch one are similar models from the same maker, H&R, and are in great shape so that should rule out any weapons-related variation. I want to compare Stingers, Velocitors & Aguila Super Maximums. Maybe some others, too. I've shot them into various things and the Aguilas seem to penetrate further but I'd like to get some FPS figures. I think a lot of folks would like to know the results.

I'll buy lunch or something. I have weekday afternoons free and sometimes weekend days. If anyone's interested, let me know. Thanks.

PS: If there's someone local who has an H&R 922 with a 4" barrel, it would make this perfect. That's the one I'm missing.

I'll move this to revolvers and see if that helps.

Here is pretty complete testing of NAA Mini-Revolvers.

Not exactly what you ask for, but if it gets X velocity out of a very short NAA barrel, it sure ain't gonna get any slower out of a longer barrel!

I have chronographed the Aguila Super Maximum in a 6" barrel Smith and Wesson 2206. The velocities were around 1400 fps more or less. If I remember correctly the spread of velocity between each round was pretty big. It may be caused by the rimfire primer. I'm no rimfire expert though.

My only .22 LR revolver is a Colt Officer's Model Target, with a 6" barrel. But if you're ever interested in a vacation, Mountain View, Arkansas is a nice place. Bring your revolvers and call me, and we'll shoot them over my chronograph.

Years ago I shot several types of ammo through a chrono with a S&W m63, 4" barrel. I do have the specs somewhere, but cannot fathom where..

Nevertheless, I remember both CCI Stinger and Winchester Xpediter both clocking a bit over 370 m/s, or ~1200+ fps, Stingers being just a little faster. Statistically speaking my tests were not valid though, as the ammo expediture was rather modest.
