Is there any really effective way to remove Nickle Plating from a revolver?

The easiest ways are to have the gun de-plated. This is a reverse of the method used to plate the metal.

Second, there is a chemical method. I believe Brownell's sell this.

If you are talking "soft" nicle you need to have a reverse plaing process done. Either way I don't recommend it as you will ruin any finish and add to the tolerence between any plated surfaces.

what about glass bead blasting it?

Blasting the finish off of an electroplated gun will 1) require you to use an abrasive media like garnet, and 2) result in a very strange looking gun unless extreme care is used (because the media cannot go into all the places that the finish has reached). You have to cut through not only the nickle but the copper also. This is a large amount of material loss, and can affect tolerences.
