Well the only good thing that come from the Meddlin' Bunch that Restricted shotguns to only 3 shells when hunting Migratory Game birds was some Plug Tests.
This is real serious testing and evaluation.
It was for the benefit of all hunters, male and female, from kids to damn your old...
Before we headed into town to get BBQ, and bring back a order of Chili and Mexican Chips and Dips and Whole Apple, Cherry, and Peach Pies...
Hey, we wuz staying in a hunting cabin, we flipped a two headed quarter and "heads we get food , tails we cook food " and tails lost.
WE done figured out before we reached the blacktop, we were not going to have to test Single Shot , SxS, O/U, Win 1400 shotguns, the Marlin 10 ga Goose gun...
Some folks just don't appreciate some smart folks that do stuff together I tell ya...
We pig out, make all these stops with 6" of snow on the ground and it is snowing like crazy, and the smell of fried chicken caused another pit stop...
Note: hungry duck hunters do not sleep well, shoot well, or take naps well after hunting.
Write that down somewhere...
We get back and we did not wanna watch the Black & White TV with rabbit ears, none of us really watched TV anyway.
Crank up some Rock-n-Roll - dawgs like Rock-n-Roll, and the project for the night was making plugs for various makes of shotguns, by removing ours, measuring and cutting one from wooden dowels.
Old boy unscrews his mag cap, and his plug got past his cheese dip fingers, and went plumb across the room , into the mud room - we had open - due to this big friggin' fire we had, and it got hot, so we opened the door to mud room and his plug sailed and landed in a pair of waders.
Who in the hell needs a TV , much less watch one, when there is much more important educational things to do, for the sake of all Migratory hunters?
Oh hell yeah, we got paper and pencil out, as on e gotta have documentation, and control, and notes so folks can repeat all this scientific stuff.
Factory plugs done, repeat a minimum of 3 times ...over and over and over again.
You get good at this, you can fire them things and have the person holding the coffee not have to move to catch it...
Dawgs are great, they retrieve these things real well ...
Make the dowels so if anyone shows up, does not have one, we just have one in a box marked with make, model of guns. Smart huh?
Wellll...gotta test these we made, I mean this is a serious scientific test and all...
"I found some PVC"
Hot damn! We gotta make PVC plugs, I mean wood is great still for the sake of science and all...
Just firing off plugs under mag spring tension...
I got curious about 1911 Recoil guide rod plugs , you know, like a 1911 is supposed to be.
Spent casings of 45ACP work for these plugs as you know.
Testing them out was real scientific .
Smart bunch, we knew to not test Model 10s, Colt Detective Specials, Ruger Six series for the recoil guide plugs too...
Shotguns...For example...
Them old Winchester factory ones of wood will fly further, and truer than a Remington Green plastic one.
Plastic starts out faster, slows down faster and gets whomper-jawed in flight faster.
Like I've said before, me and mine did some good work back in the day...
