I'll be in South East Georgia this spring around Easter. I'm going to try to get some hunting in. What's in season down there on public land? I'm from Missouri (where we are hogless for the most part) and would love to do a hog hunt or squirrel hunt when I'm down there. Any suggestions on game and location to hunt?

PS I've already got my fishing plans in the works!

Thanks,
HB

Turkey season usually begins around the 3rd Sat. of March. I do not have the regs in front of me so I don't know the exact date. Check out www.gohuntgeorgia.com for regulations. Hogs and Coyotes can be taken year round on private land, but if hunting on public land they can only be hunted during a regular hunting season and with a gun and load legal for that species if I understand the regulations correctly. This means that you would have to us a shotgun loaded with #2 shot or smaller. Or, you could hunt with a muzzleloader, since they are the only rifles legal for turkey hunting.

I live in NW Georgia and am familiar with a lot of places to hunt on public land here, unfortunately, I cant help you much with south Georgia.

Google Georgia Wildlife Management Areas. That will get you maps of the state WMA locations, and you can get the maps and hunting information for each.

There are lots of these areas...we Georgia hunters are truly blessed!
