Does anyone know if S&W offers this with night sights from the factory and where you can buy one, or would I be better off buying the standard model for 499.95 (with current 50.00 rebate equals 449.95) without night sites and have them put on by a local gun shop/armour?
Also what brand of night sights, Trigicon or TrueGlow I think their called.
Also does anyone like BladeTech make a good holster for the MP? I have used BladeTech for my Glocks but have sold the Glocks except one and will need a holster for the MP model 40.
One last question from those of you who own this gun. Can the magazine lock be disengaged or is it that big of a deal. My understanding is if the magazine is dropped or ejected and there is a load in the chamber, the gun will not fire or I am wrong about this?
I would appreciate any and all replies to these questions before I make my purchase.
Thank you men, great site and smile D-man, it all good.

Yes those come from the factory w/ night sights. Blade-Tec makes several holsters for it, as do Eagle Industries, Blackhawk, etc.
There are several versions of this pistol that can be ordered; those with, or w/o night sights, with, or w/o the magazine safety.
If you check some out at your local shop, look closely at the right side of the slide, under the ejection port, it will state,"caution: this weapon capable of firing with magazine removed!" This, of course, means that it's one of those w/o the mag safety.
If this warning is not there, it has the mag safety.
There are even versions that also have a key-lock on the left side....
I personally like the mag safety, My Dept.'s weapons are the M&P40 with the mag safety. I think it's a good feature. I also have the mag safety on my off-duty Hi-Power. It's especially good to have if you have children in the house.
To answer your question directly, no the weapon shouldn't fire with a round in the chamber, when the mag is removed....but I caution you never to completely depend on any mechanical safety device...always be safe. I hope this helps!

My understanding is if the magazine is dropped or ejected and there is a load in the chamber, the gun will not fire or I am wrong about this? You can get them with or without the magazine disconnect. The disconnect in the M&P, unlike the BHP, does not influence the feel of the trigger. If you have a round in the gun and remove the magazine, the trigger is deactivated (it will pull to the rear against spring tension, but will not cock the striker- no click, no bang). HOWEVER, if the trigger was partially pulled before the magazine was ejected, it can and will go bang.
Also, S&W apparently shipped my PD at least one weapon that was supposed to be a disconnect model and did not have the disconnector (yeah. oops.). Fortunately it was discovered by an alert officer who noticed that his was the only gun that clicked when you pulled the trigger without an onboard mag when when they were doing orientation with the new weapon. :uhoh:
